Day 20 & 21: What Makes You Happy/Sad

Yesterday’s question was what makes me happy. Co-incidentally, yesterday was also International Happiness Day. Anyways, a lot of things make me happy especially when people answer God’s call for them to be saved and to lead a better life.

Today’s question is what makes me sad and that’ll be people who reject or don’t know their Lord and Savior.Β

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 4

song challenge

Challenge: a song that makes you sad

Quite a few actually!

I try to avoid listening to Michael Jackson’s ‘Gone Too Soon’ because who the heck doesn’t tear up during the song? And when you get to know who Ryan White was, it makes the song all the sadder. I also remember Donald Trump paying for White’s medical expenses. Β Jackson’s emotional vocal range and use of words did nothing to help the floodgates.Β

Like a rainbow
Fading in the twinkling of an eye
Gone too soon

Shiny and sparkly
And splendidly bright
Here one day
Gone one night

Like a sunset
Dying with the rising of the moon
Gone too soon

And ‘Stranger In Moscow’. If there is ever ONE SONG that can make one feel lonely it’s this one. This song is one of the most emotional ever made and it doesn’t help that it is one of Jackson’s slowest songs. You don’t have to identify with loneliness to be lonely because Jackson would make you feel lonely anyway when he keeps asking ‘how does it feel?’ Did he think it felt nice? This haunting ballad is inconsolable loneliness and I don’t think another artist could’ve pulled it off. The video was equally beautiful and haunting.

How does it feel (How does it feel)
How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel (How does it feel now)
How does it feel
How does it feel
When you’re alone
And you’re cold inside

And last but not least ‘Tell Laura I Love Her’ by Ray Peterson. This has got to be one of the saddest songs ever written! Forget the little jig ’bout Jack and Diane. Tommy and Laura’s love were doomed from the time Tommy decide to enter a stock car race in hopes of winning the prize money and buying a wedding ring for his beloved Laura. He didn’t even get to tell her that he loved her one last time.

He practically lived and died for Laura. It’s a well-written emotional song, but sometimes I despise the writer for being so wickedly in-tune with such sadness.

He couldn’t get Laura on the phone
So to her mother, Tommy said

Tell Laura I love her
Tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura I may be late
I’ve something to do, that cannot wait

Dart! The floodgates are threatening and before they fall and I get all teary-eyed and depress, let me get back to my writing.
