The ONLY house I want to dwell in.

When I was young, I felt as if I belonged nowhere. I did not fit into a society that demanded so many unethical things, and, I still don’t. However, the thing I wanted most was to move the farthest away from the village in which I grew up and so, I started saving up to purchase a house. But then medical problems arose and it was one thing after the other and before I knew it, the dream of acquiring a house went down the drain.

Todo List, Despaired, Man, Person, Sad, Confused, List

However, God intervened and led me to John 14:2 in which Jesus promises…

In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Lately, the verse is once again on my heart. Sabbath worship is just a taste in this life of the joys and delight in God’s house. I do have a place to live and a bed to rest my head on when the night falls, so I am utmost grateful that God has taken my mind away from temporal things.

Silhouette, Dancing, Woman, People, Art, Happy

And this is my reply to John 14:2:

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.

Psalms 27:4

Because…

Lord, I love the house where you live,
the place where your glory dwells.

Psalm 26:8

May our hearts be continually set on desiring to be with the Lord.

The Flightless Birds

While birds are known for taking flight into the sky, there are some that have never flown a day in their birdlife. These flightless birds have wings that protect them from the heat and cold and their wings also help them to maintain balance while running.

🐦 A lesser-known relative of the ostrich, the rhea is native to South America. Although related to the ostrich, the rhea is distinguishable by their 3-toed feet (ostrich have 2) and their brownish color.

🐦 The ostrich is the largest and the heaviest bird alive. It can run up to 70 kilometers (43.5 miles) an hour, making it a fast runner. This beautiful bird has big brown eyes and thick black lashes which are the envy of some women. As a matter of fact, the ostrich is said to have the largest eyes of any land animal, and they live in the grasslands of Africa. Oh, and, they have 3 stomachs.

Image: The Ever-Stylish Emu

🐦 The emu can be found all over Australia. It is the largest bird in Australia and the second largest in the world. The emu uses their wings to cool themselves down. And why not? Their feathers are soft and fluffy. In the wild, they can live p to 10-20 years.

🐦 The kiwi bird is a symbol of New Zealand. This small usually brown bird has a long, pointed bill with nostrils at the end that they used to sniff out bugs to eat. They’re the only bird in the world with nostrils at the end of its beak, and they have marrow in its bones like humans. Kiwis are mostly nocturnal.

🐦 The cassowary is said to be shy and reclusive but can get dangerous when provoked. The female cassowary lays the eggs, but that’s about the only role they play in bringing up a family for they don’t stick around to sit on the eggs. It is the male that sits on the eggs for at least 50 days, and they refuse to leave the nest for nourishment. Once the babies are born, the father spends the next 9 months raising his chicks.

Here’s a video via Atherton Tablelands Birdwatchers’ Cabin of a dad cassowary and his chicks:

Devotional Nugget #13: When I am afraid…

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

Psalm 56:3

Over the past few weeks, the Covid-19 has been shoved in our faces at full blast. Instead of trusting God, people have been constantly turning to the media for comfort and advice which only increased panicking, fear, and anxiety which eventually led people to panic buy hand sanitizer, Lysol, and toilet paper.

“We mustn’t give in to panic,”

Emmanuel Macron (Current French President)

No matter what we’re facing, God is our source of protection. When we allow fear to control us, it takes root and gives birth to darkness that then manifests within us. This is a powerful weapon that the enemy can use against us to render us helpless. But God is even greater and much more powerful!

The Bible is filled with a lot of comforting scriptures to help us quell our fear. These are a few of my favorites:

Psalm 91                Isaiah 41:10             Psalm 23

Psalm 56:3             2 Timothy 1:7         Deuteronomy 31:6

You can choose to guard your heart and you can choose to not allow fear to control your life. Choose God and allow Him to reign in your fears. Use this time to draw closer to God and to allow peace to embrace you through the Holy Spirit.

Application

Trust. Have faith. Eradicate fear. Pray. Justin Bieber said a lovely prayer after closing off an Instagram Live last Thursday by praying with his fans. I’ll leave it here:

“God, we thank You so much for this day. I thank You so much that You have everything in control. You know the beginning from the end and You’re not surprised by this whole thing that’s happening. God, we know that these things don’t come from You, that these things are unexplainable, but God, we trust You in these times, and we just ask God that You would make this go away as soon as possible, God. We just thank You so much for who You are, and we just ask that You would give us more answers. In Your name, we pray. Amen.”

When I Am Afraid…

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Deuteronomy 31:8

Fear is not a word that Christians should cling to. Unfortunately, we live in a world that forsakes God and feeds off the fear, so we tend to panic which solves absolutely nothing.

As soon as we feel the fear festering around us, we should quell it by directly putting our trust in God. He is a pillar of strength in these times, and He’ll carry us over that bridge and get us safely to the other side of the stormy waters. And if you don’t have the words to say? Just say Jesus for there is power in His holy Name!

The Eagle

The Eagle is a bird of prey and the King of Birds! They fly higher than the others and they have no time to mix and gossip with other bird folks. Whenever I think of this bird, I reflect on Isaiah 40:31. The usage of the eagle is a metaphor for strength. Our frailty gives God the opportunity to pour His strength into us when we ask for we can do ALL things through Him that gives us strength (Philippians 4:13).

🐦 There are over 60 species of eagles; most of them are from Europe, Asia, and Africa.

🐦 The eagle is the national bird of Kazakhstan, Austria, Mexico, and Germany. The bird is also found on several national flags including Egypt, Serbia, and Moldova.

🐦 The bald eagle takes its name from the fact it has a white head while the rest of its body is brown.

🐦 An eagle’s beak contains keratin, which means that it grows all the time just like human hair and fingernails.

True selfless love 💙

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

“No Charge” demonstrates God’s love in action. When we love others without expecting anything in return, we’re showcasing what it means to truly give love. I love sister Shirley Caesar’s version the most for I love that she recalled Jesus’ sacrifice to humanity as the moral.

“The cost of real love is no charge.”

I came to know this song through my mom. She loved this song a lot and growing up and over time, it made me appreciate her more.

For the nine months I carried you holding you inside me $ no charge
For the nights I sat up with doctored you and prayed for you $ no charge
For the time and tears and the costs through the years
There is no charge
When you add it all up the full cost of my love is no charge

For God loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son to come here and die for us. There was no charge when He died for us because it was done purely out of love.

Who is God?

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

Deuteronomy 6:4

Lisa: There is only one God.

Joe: Huh? But the Bible says that God is three: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

When I was little, I couldn’t comprehend the nature of God until I started to read the Bible the book in which God reveals Himself to us. The number one is very important when talking about God’s oneness (1 Corinthians 8:6). Just as there’s one human race, the Bible teaches that there is only one God (John 10:30).

Throughout the scriptures, we’ve seen God appear in the form of attributes. We’ve read about Him rescuing His people from bondage and famines. We’ve read about His awesome indescribable love for us, sending Angels to guide, and providing the ULTIMATE sacrifice for our sins. Yet, we come away without fully understanding God. He is the great “I AM” and this scripture sums up His all-mighty and powerful nature:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9

Image result for gif knight and day i'm here

Here’s the thing I gathered from this scripture: There is a reason why God’s ways and thoughts are HIGHER than ours. We’re puny unworthy mortals compared to Him and if we could get on the same level as our Creator, then we’ll make ourselves equal to Him, and He wouldn’t be worth worshiping. A few years ago, a friend posed the question: Wouldn’t you like to know EVERYTHING? Back then, my simple reply was no, hers was yes, and she veered into so many reasons why. Now, I am able to say that I don’t have to comprehend everything, just enough of what God wants me to know.

Image result for gif knight and day i'm here

Our job isn’t to fully understand God, but to trust Him and to know Him and it’s not impossible to get to know Him. I don’t like discussing topics as these, for we tend to downsize God to our limitations. So don’t take my word for it. If you want to discover the true God, crack open the Bible and get to know Him for He reveals Himself in the Holy Scriptures.

I’ll just leave a few things I’ve learned about God while reading/studying the Word:

^ God is the Creator of the universe and all that is in it; He’s not just “some deity” that created the world for fun for He put a lot of detail into it (Genesis 1).

^ Although powerfully great, He is very much approachable (Hebrews 4:16).

^ God is the very essence of love (1 John 4:8; 19-21).

^ God will ultimately hold us accountable for He knows EXACTLY what we do (2 Corinthians 5:9-10).

^ It is better to fear God rather than man (Matthew 10:28).

The Duck

Hello and welcome back to this bird segment! I’m going to try my best to wrap up this challenge soon for I want to move onto another one. So without further ado:

Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata) | Our World’s 10 Beautiful and Colorful Birds

Image: The ever gorgeous Mandarin Duck

🐦 Ducks are mostly aquatic birds living in both freshwater and seawater and found on every continent except for Antarctica. Their webbed feet have no nerves or blood vessels, thus, rendering them incapable of feeling the cold.

🐦 All domestic ducks are descended from either the Mallard or the Muscovy duck.

Female Mallard duck - beautiful feather markings!

Image: A female Mallard duck

🐦 The more daylight there is, the more eggs a hen produces.

🐦 Ducks have excellent vision! They have a field of vision of nearly 340 degrees!

🐦 And you know that saying about a duck’s quack producing no echo? That’s quackers for a duck’s quack does indeed echo. 😉

Posted in Teaser Tuesday!

Category is…

Salut! And welcome back to this little space on the internet.

Sometimes, I don’t quite know how to start a post up and this is one of those moments. But today, I want to talk about categories. I am in the process of deleting and renaming some categories, and I am also in the process of introducing new ones. Although I’ve narrowed it down to 8, they may or may not see the light of day.

I sat on these categories for a while, some as far back as 2017. Yeah, I know, I’m a delinquent. I procrastinate. A lot.

Adventures in the Kitchen

Image result for gif kitchen

Yep, that’s a live feed of me in the kitchen trying to cook. I’m enjoying being in the kitchen lately, so I’ll like to share some of the things I’ve been making or simply enjoy eating.

Arts & Craft

Image result for gif art and craft

It all started in 2017 when I complied the top ten museums I’ll love to visit and my top 10 favorite paintings. Mind you, these posts are still in drafts after all of these years. I recently found some drawings I did when I used to fan girl over stuff and since I’ve been getting the itch to start again – I have to dust off the rust first – I thought this would make a good category.

The Bible in Prophecy

Image result for gif bible

Prophecies straight from the Bible show what has already been established and what is yet to come. Is there an event called the rapture just before the coming of the One True King? What is the 3rd temple? Who/what is the anti-Christ? These are a few topics I’ll like to explore.

Blast from the Past

Image result for do you remember gif

Another category that has been sitting in drafts, withering away since 2017. I had planned to revisit nostalgia through certain TV shows and movies and see if I feel the same way about them. I already have some notes in drafts.

Fairy tale Friday

Image result for gif fairy dust

It all started when I helped a student with a fairy tale thesis and I’ve been meaning to explore the dark world of fairy tales ever since. That is if this category eventually makes the cut.

Lessons from God

Image result for gif blossoming flowers

This is self-explanatory. God has taught me and has been teaching me so much that I’ll like to share some of the lessons I’ve learned from Him.

Tour Trinidad

Image result for gif trinidad

I’ve been waiting to launch this category for a while and now, the time is here. This is a subcategory for Travel Tuesday in which I’ll show you around my town.

What’s Up Weds

Image result for gif coffee two

Twice a month (or so), we meet in the middle of the week to interact. We’ll discuss non-personal items such as a favorite treat or what we’re currently reading.

And those are the categories I hope to start working on in the right timing. I’ll have to randomly schedule some of these categories in the future for its only one blog and it’s on its way to becoming congested.
