My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
Psalm 5:3
What do you do when you wake up first thing in the morning? Do you pick up your phone to check your missed calls and messages? Look at Twitter, Facebook or Instagram? Read the newspaper? Catch up with your favorite celebrity? Make the first cup of coffee? Or do you spend quiet time with God first?
I get that we’re busybodies, but worship should be the most important part of our mornings. When we spend time in prayer with God, it prepares us to meet the demands of the day, brings us closer to our Maker and gets us in the habit of praying throughout the day. It also keeps temptation away.
Honoring God with our lips is one thing, but putting words into action is another.
This applies to me as well. I’ve been lacking in spending quiet time with God lately during the day while I’m at work. I do read my morning devotion, meditate on a scripture or two and pray before work begins, but I lapse during the day at times. I’ve prayed about getting into the proper habit of spending more quiet time with Jesus. I don’t want to be far away from God; I want to be closer to Him. The excuse of being busy to find the time to sit quietly with Him reminds me of ‘The Prayerless Poem’.
When we’re distracted by the world, we cannot hear God’s voice. Be still and set your mind on God in the morning. Even Jesus needed quiet time with the Father (Mark 1:35-37; Luke 5:15-16). What finer example do we need? We were created to worship the Creator (Isaiah 43:7). And when we spend quiet time with Him through prayer, singing praises, meditating on scripture or simply talking to Him, we’ll find a purpose to live, rejoice, and enjoy.
Reflection
Spending quiet time with God transforms our way of thinking for we must remove ourselves from the world. If we can make time for our favorite TV shows and social media, we can very well make time for God.

Yessss the more time we spend with God the better everything is. The days I jump up, with all that I “need” to do, it ends up being a mess. The days I sit with the LORD, and praise Him, talk with Him, listen for Him, THEN jump up and get going, Those are the best most successful days, always 🙂

I got to thinking about what I commented to you here, and you know maybe I need to start being more aware 🙂 I mean God is with us all the time, always. Instead of me trying to spend more time with Him, since obviously I AM is spending all the time with me, I need to be more aware, and hence I will be spending all my time with Him like He does with me 🙂 He certainly deserves that courtesy since He gives it to me 🙂 Thank you my dear Sister for letting the LORD use you to help me see this 🙂

I love how you put this, me dearest! Being aware is certainly something that I need to work on as well for I do spend a lot of time with Him. Yes, He certainly deserves that. And thank you for sharing this insight. I would’ve never looked at it this way had you not mentioned it. May the good Lord continue to bless you. 💙

I did spend time with God on Sunday. I lost a family member and we said goodbye Sunday in prayer. I needed His love to get our family through this sad time and by knowing we will see each other again. Death is so difficult but I am happy she is with our Lord.

I’m sorry to hear about the passing of your family member, but yes, God’s love can get us through difficult times. Do accept my condolences and may God continue to be with your family at this time.

The reflection is spot on, Diana. I have the wonderful pleasure, of drive for a living. Which means I spend a lot of time in the vehicle listening to music, plus where I do 90% of my writing. Where I’m able to spend so much time alone… with the lover of my soul. Singing His praise, worshipping my Daddy. And yes, it has truly helped, to transform my heart and soul! Blessings to you my sister!

Amen! I have a large stack of fluorescent 3×5 cards that each have a verse(s) turned into prayer and personalized with my family’s names. I try to carry a few with me when I am out and about. Thanks for this great reminder, Diana. Especially, now that we are right in the middle of the busiest time of the year. ♥️

Same, my friend! Always good to hear from you as well. I’m still hardly getting the time to read as before, but for now, I read the first 10 posts or so I come across in Reader. Hope to change that soon! Take care. 😃
