꧁The Book Blogger Memory Challenge ꧂

I love fun challenges and madamewriterblog recently posted a good one based only on total recall! For this challenge, I can’t look at my bookshelf or use the internet which is fine for I’m currently at work listening to the sound of rain.

Name a book written by an author named Michael

I am yet to read this book, but Moonwalk by Michael Jackson. I hope to read it soon for it’s been sitting in my TBR for way too long.

Name a book with a dragon on the cover

I am not a fan of anything dragons for the devilish symbolism is not lost on me, but there were a few popular books a few years ago that I kept seeing EVERYWHERE and now that I need my memory the most, it fails me! This is unaccepta… wait, wait, wait! Yu-Gi-Oh! mangas have a few covers with the – I can’t believe I’m about to say this – Blue Eyes White Dragon on them. Other dragons from the series were also featured on later covers including the golden glorious Winged Dragon of Ra.

Name a book about a character named George

George… George… ah ha! George of the Jungle by Justine Korman! I only know this George and the curious one. Wait, Curious George is also a book! If I recall correctly, my youngest sister had a CG book. I can’t recall the author’s name, but I’ve locked in my final answer, Eddie: Curious George

I love this monkey! Also, late afternoon memories are assaulting me
so hard right now. I used to marathon CM when I got home from work
only a few years ago.
😔 I know what I’m going to do when I get home!

Name a book with an author with the surname of Smith

Ooh, Nighty Night and Good Night by Michael W. Smith (Yes, the Gospel crooner). It’s a children’s book that I’ve been meaning to get my hands on for a while now.

Name a book set in Australia

The only book that comes to mind is Private Down Under by James Patterson and I disliked that book big time! As a matter of fact, I dislike what I’ve read of the Private series (2-3 books in) and called it quits because I can’t stand the main protagonist Jack.

Name a book with the name of a month in the title

This book is either in my TBR or I’m yet to get it: April in Paris. I love that the title contains my birth month and dream destination. 😄

Name a book with a knife on the cover

This is easy because it’s in my TBR: The Chef by James Patterson.

Name a book with the word ‘one’ in the title

This one is also in my TBR: The One Year Bible

Name a book with an eponymous title

Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. I hope to read this book once again in the near future.

Name a book turned into a movie

My favorite book to movie adaptation was The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. The 1993 version was the only one I accepted as a pass.

This was actually quite fun! However, doing this challenge made me realize that I’ve gone slack in reading. I’ll have to fix that soon. If you’re up to do this challenge, feel free to and don’t forget to check out Madame Writer’s entry here:

Books & Reviews 📚

Book #142: Who Moved My Cheese?

Well, this feels awkward given that I haven’t talked about books in a long time, but it also feels right, for I enjoy talking about books… even when I’m bashing ’em. However, I haven’t been reading much lately, for my interest in books are shifting. Too much garbage out here lately. I haven’t purchased any new books in months so my current TBR (after weeding) would take me into 2019 God’s willing. Anyways, enough chit-chat. Let’s talk about the book I just literally finished reading.

I dislike motivational books and I’ve been avoiding this one for years. However, recently, I was cleaning out the empty back office of the library, and this book ended up in a stack of books intended to be shelved. My friend saw it, borrowed it, read it in one day, talked wonderfully about it and suggest that I read it, too. I hesitated. I kept insisting that I wouldn’t like the book for it’s not my cup of coffee, but I decided to stop “judging” and see for myself.

And I honestly don’t know what to make of this book because it assaulted my intelligence! 😔

Okay, let me start off by listing the few things I sort of liked about this book:

* Haw’s so-call inspiring cheesy notes for his best friend, Hem who didn’t like change. Life moves on and so should we. Embrace change. Learn to adapt. I can contradict this also by saying that life can sometimes be complicated to be resolved by embracing change and adapting for it’s a process for some.

* Page 70: He pulled off his shoes, tied the laces together, and hung them around his neck in case he needed them again. We shouldn’t get too comfortable. Be always ready to move if necessary.

* And of course, the various cheeses mentioned! There could never be enough cheese! Oddly enough, I am not eating any cheese while writing this. I should rectify this. *Heads for the fridge in search of cheese* Okay, we’re out of cheese. Who ate my cheese?!

‘Cheese’ is whatever you desire. It’s a metaphor for what you desire to have in life be it a relationship, recognition, a mansion, etc. ‘The Maze’ represents where you spend time looking for what you want. There are 4 main characters: two mice (Sniff & Scurry) and two little people (Hem and Haw). They spend their time scurrying around the maze when the cheese from their comfort zone is gone.

Yep! Hardworking employees are reduced to lab rats in this book!

Then for the remainder of the book (which I didn’t finish), we get to listen to a group of friends discuss how the awesome philosophy behind the missing cheese relate to their boring lives. Talk about a marketing ploy to encourage managers to buy this oversimplified rubbish! I rather listen to Seto Kaiba talk about duel disks! Now, there’s a CEO who’ll call this book for what it is! 😉

I don’t like the book. I also don’t like that the author comes off as a bragging pompous bore: “This book has helped lives and marriages and even saved careers.” Maybe it did, but so what? There’s no need to act as if this is the only self-help book on planet earth. If your friend gives you this to read, dump him/her. If your boss gifts this to you, hand in your two-weeks notice.

I wish I could un-read this book. If I need self-help, I can always count on the Holy Bible. And I just realized that the question ‘who moved my cheese?’ was never answered. Hmm… maybe it was The Man testing the system after all. Whether we like it or not, we’re slaves to the system and when things get taken away from us, we all react differently to change.

At least there’ll always be cheese! 😋

For a book that talked about the world of cheeses, there was a lack of cheese on the cover. Although I understand that the cover has to sync with the genre, I found the cover boring. 1/3

Yes, La Petit Muse is getting a facelift. 😁

Happy May Day!

Hello, and welcome back to my blog. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and reflecting lately when it comes to many aspects of my life including this blog. I don’t want to go into a lot of details, but I am thinking of revamping La Petit Muse as early as 2019 be it God’s willing. I’ll be adding new categories and neglecting some of the old ones. I won’t say which ones at the moment.

No, but I can divulge a few details at the moment.

Oh, alright! At the beginning of the year, I contemplated on bringing back Song Sunday (this month is a year since I haven’t updated it), but some of these songs these so-call Christian artists out here are singing do not entirely praise and focus on God. But I’ve made the decision to bring it back. I’ll be sharing songs that I love, discussing the intentions/meanings behind some songs and I used to write songs so I’ll be sharing some of mine as well. Also, the Origins series that I wanted to start at the beginning of this year is a go.

And that’s all I’ll be sharing for now. Now, to a small life update.

Currently, I’m…

Watching… Criminal Minds! The 14th season kicked off with a bang although it feels like the finality of the show.

Reading… The Women’s Murder Club series by James Patterson. I’m on the 12th book. I have no intention to write full reviews for the books, but I may talk about them at some point. I’m currently not in a book reviewing book mood anyway.

Listening… to ‘Peace’ by Depeche Mode and ‘In Christ Alone’ by Brian Littrell. I have these songs on repeat always.

Day 12: A song from your preteen years

The soundtrack to Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters

Image result for gif yugi sound track

Only kidding! Well, back then, I loved the Backstreet Boys, discovered Depeche Mode, enjoyed 80’s music, but I’ll have to go with ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ from the movie Dil Se which I have not seen up to this day. Wait, was I even a preteen when this came out? Ah, well, this was one of the songs that took the globe by storm and regardless of language and regardless of the movie bombing at the Box Office, everyone knew the lyrics to this song regardless of language.

The song was composed by A.R. Rahman, written by Gulzar, and sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi. Farah Khan was the woman behind the brilliant choreography that saw Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora Khan dance on top of a moving train. Well, SRK, because according to him all the dancers were tied to the moving train except him. The choreography was stunning and as the train rolled through Tamil Nadu (southern India), one can only marvel at such beauty.

Jinke sar ho ishq ki chaaon
Paaon ke neeche jaanat hogi
Jinke sar ho ishq ki chaaon

Chal chaiyya chaiyya chaiyya chaiyya

Share your world for week of April 02nd

Back again to participate in the ever fun Cee’s Share Your World Challenge!

What was or is your favorite cartoon?

More like an anime: Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters! I remember when the first episode came out (April 18, 2000) and I dumped every other cartoon for it because of the Ancient Egyptian background. This was also the anime that made me fall in love with the Japanese culture and I still don’t know if I liked Yugi or Yami better.

Ah, who am I kidding! I watched this mostly for Yami although Yugi was the cutest thing ever!

Which cooking utensil (other than the usual pots and pans etc) would you miss the most?

None. Although I cook now and then, I am not in love with cooking so the utensils don’t have a special place in my heart as my writing equipment.

Would you dare to sleep in a haunted house overnight?

Only if Matthew Gray Gubler is accompanying me for the boy loves haunted houses.

On second thought, that might not be a good idea.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?

BFF Q&A! 💙

Image result for Salut tout le monde gif

Hello there. Today, we’re going to talk friendship. And whenever I think of friendship, I think of Téa of YGO giving her friendship speeches…

Image result for gif tea yugioh friendship

No, Pharoah, everything does not revolve around trap cards! 🙄

Anyway, welcome to this special edition of BFF Q&A. Before I begin, let me introduce you to my bestie, Tammy over at God Inspired Art.

Image result for gif love you Tammy

She is like a burst of sunshine and she laughs a lot which is a plus. She encourages me and pushes me to achieve my goals no matter how small they may be. She is like a sister to me. Tammy, girl, God knew exactly what He was doing when he made us met on that fateful day. 💙

I know that sounded like a winning award speech, but Tammy is really special to me. And, erm, I sort of needed a fab intro because I fail HARD at this BFF thing. I kid you not. Here’s what happened: Tammy sent the questions in January; they were for the blog, but I misunderstood and ended up sending my answers back to her. I also thought that I had to answer 1 item per question… oops, I think I’ve talked too much already so let’s get into it.

#BestieSwag 🔥

1. Your bestie’s favorite color?

There’s only one color for this girl and that’s pink, although she also fancies purple.

Image result for gif pink color

2. What she dislikes?

So the story kicks in here. Like I said, I thought it was one answer per question so I answered gossip. Then she sent the rest: anything that crawls and is slimy (looking at you, snails), when metal scrapes against metal, dishonesty, raisins, cornbread (never knew this one), racialism, and stereotyping.

Image result for gif dislike

3. What she loves?

Our King and Savior is her top love. 💙 Tammy is an outdoorsy person so she’s in love with nature. She loves ketchup, reading, acting, singing, dancing, being creative (writing, designing, painting) learning new things and making someone laugh/smile. Two other things that this girl in the entire world is eating and sleeping. She says she loves me, but there’s no room on the love list for me. 😅

Image result for gif creativity

4. Favorite food?

This girl is a human vacuum cleaner! She can make food disappear faster than you can say ‘Abracadabra!’ Okay, maybe not, but she’s a foodie and she simply loves food be it a burger or fried chicken. Break out the ketchup!

5. What does she do in her spare time?

Study the Word, eat, work on new stories, think about what to cook so she can eat it, listen to music, eat, research for her stories, hang out with the family, and did I say eat?

Image result for gif spare time

6. Favorite books of the Bible?

Psalms and Job.

7. Color of eyes?

Image result for gif brown eyes

8. Favorite story you ever read from her?

Tammy is a brilliant writer and I enjoy all of her stories (and poems), but my overall favorites are Meeting You and Misty Islands. I am a sucker for an adventure-action story and Misty Islands (set here on our beautiful island) is life! 💙 And Meeting You is just beautiful!

Image result for gif french pirate

9. Future trips/adventures in and out of de islands?

Tammy basically covered this already. This year if possible, we want to explore our island and we look forward to visiting our Caribbean neighbors in the near future.

Image result for gif trinidad

10. How often do you talk with her?

Eh, sometimes I go an entire month without talking to her. Kidding! We talk every day!

Image result for gif yugi on phone

11. How often do we argue?

We may disagree on certain things, but we don’t argue we reason. 😃

Image result for gif yugioh fight

12. Favorite actor?

Here’s the thing, Tammy never really told me who her favorite actors were, but she liked a bunch of them, but that’s okay for none of them could walk in TC’s shoes. Yes, I went there.

Image result for gif laughing

Joking! Joking! Or was I? She liked Hugh Jackman (terrific actor, this one!), Brandon Fraser, Angela Bassett, and Viola Davis among several others.

Well, it’s been fun doing this. Maybe we learned more about each other, maybe we didn’t. Hop over to my girl’s blog and see her responses to these questions if you haven’t done so already. Tammy, I love yuh, girl!
