I Gave Up The World For You

Today is World Poetry Day and I’ll be contributing a poem. I don’t write poems unless I’m inspired. The one that I’m about to share was written in 2016. I found it in a book last evening and decided to use it for today’s event.

I Gave Up The World For You

I gave up the world for You
The songs I used to listen to

The movies I used to watch
The curses I used to utter
The lies I used to mutter

I gave up the world for You
But I still have much to do

It’s never done
It’s never over
I can only get better
And day by day, stronger
With You by my side

I gave up the world for You
I lost friends in the process

And precious family, too
But nothing matters
For you’ll never forsake me
in this cruel cold world.

Thank You, Jesus! 💙

A Sinner's Diary

Jer 7:23 But this is what I commanded them, saying, Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people; and walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, so that it may be well with you.

Jer 6:16 Thus says Jehovah, Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths where the good way is, and walk in it, and you shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in it.

I am not walking well. Physically, I mean. My back issues have cropped up again and I am hobbling at best. Soon I will have surgery again. Twice in two years, almost exactly a year apart is not a good trend! Maybe I can skip August from now on…

Let me clarify that I’m not asking for sympathy, although I do covet…

365 Days of Writing

July 14th: Opposite day

If you normally write non-fiction, post a photo. If you normally post images, write fiction. If you normally write fiction, write a poem. If you normally write poetry, draw a picture.

Okay, then I guess I’m writing a poem today. Let’s see what I can come up with…

He Is For Us

fell short
lied and
Yet, He is for us
He was for us before the world was made
And He is still for us as this world sets to end.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

I’ve come to read and appreciate many poems over the years, but if you were to ask what is my all-time favorite poem, I’ll tell you it’s Robert Frost’s ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’.

Now, a poem is like a piece of music and it speaks differently to each individual. I would not attempt to over analyze this beauty.

Frost had the uncanny ability to depict a scene with many details, that whenever I read this poem, I am transformed to the woods on the darkest evening of the year. Over the years, I’ve read that this poem is about the writer stopping to appreciate nature given that Frost was known for his odes to nature. However, I never got that vibe because this is the darkest evening of the year and why would he stop with not a house in sight to appreciate nature? I’ll love to talk about this poem at length at some other time, but today, I just want to appreciate it and thank Frost for this beauty.

Teaser Tuesday: A love poem

Teaser Tuesday:

Love has been in the air all morning! Well, for my characters and since I arrived at work earlier on, I’ve been itching to write a scene or two of their love story. Sitting here in my room now, I can finally get down to some lovey-dovey business!

Yass! Let it rain love!

At present, the story is called ‘No Boundaries‘ and it is about a deaf man finding love with the woman who lives in the apartment next to his. Cliché, I know, but it’s beautiful. I don’t have a full blurb written as yet because I keep changing the story around and I usually write my blurbs/summary last anyway. So, we have Jai who is a deaf Indian man in his early thirties and his love interest is a bubbly woman who is full of life! She was born in Romania but has American citizenship. Jai’s family wants him to settle down with a nice Indian girl and his pushy sister decides to play matchmaker because she can’t get marry until he has. Jai and Diana (that’s the girl next door and I tend to automatically call most of my female leads ‘Diana’) are not even great friends when he asks her for a favor: pretend to be his girlfriend to get his sister off his back.

convo 1

I’ll share some of that conversation next Tuesday God’s willing if I am up to it. 😛 Anywho, guess who was the inspiration behind Jai? No, not Tom Cruise, this guy…

My sister made me watch Raees recently and although I was pleased with Shah Rukh Khan’s acting in some parts of the movie, it didn’t move me. I remember watching him in Dilwale and thinking, ‘What if SRK portrayed a character out of his element? Like a deaf one?’ (Disclaimer: I haven’t seen every single movie of SRK’s, but if he has ever portrayed a deaf or mute character, please let me know).

Many people know that Nyle DiMarco is Bae, but he was not the inspiration for my deaf character. Nonetheless, take it away, Bae!

Nothing stops Nyle from going after what he wants. It helps that he is extremely good-looking, but he is a go-getter.

What’s the best thing about writing this story is the fact that I am learning sign language! And this is what I love about writing. When I start something new and I have to do the research, I have so much fun discovering things that I never know I am capable of doing. Oh, I had mentioned a bit of Jai and Diana’s story last year during a challenge here: Jai & Diana

Without more blah blah blah from me, this is the poem…

These Are My Tears (I Weep For You)

Your smile,
your laughter, I’ll never forget
these are my tears as I weep for you

You weren’t the easiest of men,
but you protected what was yours
these are my tears as I weep for you

I know we have to let you go
but I wish you didn’t have to go
For I wasn’t ready to say goodbye
these are my tears. I weep for you.

I’m a writer, but today I can’t find the words
to express the way I feel
but these are my tears. I weep for you.

Last evening, my grandfather passed away and I am still trying to process the fact that I’ll never see him again. It doesn’t matter if I knew the time was coming for him to go, it’s never easy dealing with the loss. It’s also never easy sharing my words on here.

I have his memories, his smile, and especially his laugh. Grandpa loved to laugh! In his last days, he was robbed of that infectious laugh, but if I listen carefully, I could hear that melodic laugh ringing around his beloved home.

May your weary soul now find solace.

R.I.P. Grandpa.

My angel
When you are whispering in my ear
You have nothing to fear

It’s all, you have nothing to fear
You gave, you have nothing to fear
It’s all, you have nothing to fear
I got, you have nothing to fear
