Share Your World – June 4, 2018

It feels like ages since I’ve participated in Cee’s Share Your World ChallengeI’m still catching up on blogs – to be honest, it’ll take a while – but I wanted to take some time to do this, so here goes:

A piece of clothing from your younger childhood you still remember?

Ooh! A pink dress with yellow, green and purple sparkly thingies! I always remember this piece of clothing because mom bought the dress for me to attend an aunt’s wedding and I still have the dress, but it’s not something that I’ll even think of wearing if I were to choose my own dress for a wedding now. I’m just not that girly.

Irregardless of your physical fitness, coordination or agility: If you could be an athlete what would do do?   Remember this is SYW, dreaming is always allowed.

Archery! I’ll love the skill of using a bow and arrow and I’ve always admired archers from the horseback archers of Genghis Khan to Legolas. I don’t really care for Robin Hood, but bullseye!

Probably the only time I thought Orlando was blooming cute!

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?

I don’t see myself ever owning a car so I’ll rather be the one in the passenger seat.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?

Being in good company as I explored the sister isle.

Musings

The dangers of trending topics on Twitter

Twitter is where I hang out in the social media world. It’s where I discuss football, share inspiring (& sometimes funny) re/tweets and keep abreast of what’s happening in the world. It was also where I learned about Prince’s untimely death first and all the tragic happenings currently going on in this wicked world.

Then there’s this thing call ‘trending topic’.

When a celebrity trends, it usually means that he/she died, they’re ill, they got caught doing something illegal, or Twitter killed them. Yes, Twitter is guilty of ‘killing’ celebrities. So when I saw Orlando Bloom trending last evening, the first thing that came to mind was, did he die? Then I remember seeing something in the news about the 5th Pirates of the Caribbean installment so I thought perhaps it was about the film. I don’t follow Bloom on Twitter (if he has a handle) nor his personal life, but I like him as an actor, so I clicked on the TT.

And I instantly regretted clicking on it because the fuss was much ado about nothing. Just nudes of a fit Bloom paddle boarding with a smile on his face as he holiday in Italy with girlfriend Katy Perry (I didn’t even know he was dating this woman).

Then I was mad.

Isn’t anything private anymore? Isn’t anything left to the imagination anymore? Heck! These TTs should come with a warning. Not everyone wants to see nudes of great looking people. They have what we have after all.

A really important question: Does anyone have eye bleach?

A favorite fantasy movie

DAY 2

WARNING: GIF overdose.

I liked a few fantasy movies back when I was an indulgent moviegoer.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

I literally KILLED this movie when it came out! Elijah Wood was all the rage as Frodo Baggins. He played the hobbit role to a perfect T. I also liked Liv Tyler as Arwen (to think they wanted to originally cast Uma Thurman!), I thought Orlando Bloom as Legolas was cute (Bloom is just cute in general & it didn’t help that he was a skilled archer. I admire archers!) and I LOVED Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen). To think that Nicolas Cage was considered for the role of Aragorn!  Vin Diesel is a huge fan of the book and he had also auditioned for the role. I’m just glad it went to Viggo all thanks to his persuasive son.

Avatar (2009)

*sighs* Another film I liked. Zoe Saldana was wickedly brilliant as Neytiri. I liked the fact that the Na’vi race was blue given that it’s my favorite color, but I don’t think I can watch this movie presently.

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

The story of an uncommonly gentleman, this romantic dark fantasy film put Johnny Depp on the map as an eccentric actor. Depp freakishly killed this Edward role. I watched it multiple times before calling ‘meh’ on it.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

I literally OVERDOSED on Captain Jack Sparrow! This movie brought Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom together and it was a wonderful swashbuckling fantasy.

“This is the day that you will always remember as the day that you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow.”

Captain Jack Sparrow is a lying, cheating, filthy, drunk swaying flamboyant pirate and at the time of the film’s release, I thought this movie was utmost perfection simply because of Johnny Depp. The kohl-wearing witty Jack Sparrow was quite attractive to look at.

The second factor? Orlando Bloom as pretty boy Will Turner, a blacksmith turned pirate. Boy was a bit dense, but he outsmarted Sparrow in the end.

British actors are not my cup of tea, but Orlando Bloom is one I like. I couldn’t even stand to watch Keira Knightley as Miss Swan. Whenever I see KK, it’s like watching paint dry. Had it not been for Jack & Will!

But sassy Jack will never be topped because…

…and…
