Welcome home, Bale!

Daniel Levy and Mourinho are thought to be driving factors in securing Bale's return

I can’t believe that it has been 7 years since Bale left Spurs for Real Madrid… a move I didn’t want him to make in the first place. Under Zidane’s management, Bale was mistreated in a disgraceful way – just as Lionel Messi under Bartomeu, but that’s another story – and it was disheartening to see.

But I’m happy to see Bale back at Spurs where I know (I hope) he’ll get the respect he deserves.

Welcome back, welcome home, Bale. Here, is where you belong, even if it’s just for a season-long loan.

꧁30 interesting questions challenge ꧂

I love fun challenges and when I read the 30 interesting questions challenge over on Stories of Hope blog, I just had to participate. This post was supposed to have been done since last month, but I am always late to the party.

Let’s do this!

1. What are your nicknames? What do you prefer to be called?

Well, almost everyone calls me Dee and I have no problem with that at all.

2. How often do you doodle? What do your doodles look like?

I don’t doodle much as before, but does this…

…count? It’s the last thing I did sometime back in November or so.

3. What do you do if you can’t sleep at night? Do you count sheep? Toss and turn? Try to get up and do something productive?

I recite Psalm 91 and pray. Another great one is Psalm 4.

4. Do people consider you as talkative or quiet?

I am both talkative (especially if we’re talking about God, the Bible, travels, etc.) and quiet.

5. What makes you cry?

When people accept/return to God acknowledging Him as their EVERYTHING. And humanity…

6. What is your biggest pet peeve?

When the Lord’s name is taken in vain. I also dislike it when people listen to music via their headset really loud. Like, what’s the use of having a headset if other people are going to be hearing your music?

7. How many times a day do you look at yourself in the mirror?

I normally look in the mirror when I’m leaving the house.

8. What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?

That people entered inside the television set from behind to be on TV. 😆

9. What is one guilty pleasure you enjoy too much to give up?

Guilty pleasure? What is that? Here I quote the great Matthew Gray Gubler: “Don’t feel guilty if you like something.”

10. Who performs the most random acts of kindness out of everyone you know?

11. How often do you read the newspaper? Which sections?

I don’t read the newspapers, but I do read news online once or twice a week.

12. Which animal scares you the most?

This question is very subjective so I’ll give a pragmatic answer: diseased animals.

13. Are you more likely to avoid conflict or engage it head-on?

I run away from conflicts.

14. What was the most recent compliment you received?

It was from my sister in Christ, Leiya. She said that she enjoys watching me grow in Christ. 💙

15. What question are you tired of hearing?

Do you watch Game of Thrones? No. Just no.

Is Annie okay? Of course, she is! She was a CPR mannequin for Smooth Criminal’s sake! She saved millions of lives!

Why do you like Tom Cruise? You, do you.

Why do you support France and not Spain? Last time I checked, Messi wasn’t Spanish and it was Les Bleus who got me into football, not FC Barcelona or Argentina for that matter.

16. What is the strangest thing you have eaten?

I’m not an adventurous eater so I have to go with pepperoni. 👎

17. Do you have a whole lot of acquaintances or just a few very close friends?

Close friends that I cherish and love.

18. Do you have a catchphrase?

None I can think of at the moment so I guess I don’t have one.

19. What’s your all-time favorite town or city? Why?

San Fernando! It’s the most beautiful place in the south and it should’ve been the capital of Trinidad. The people there are very different than the town people and they don’t have time to mind your business. And the hill’s got a panoramic view!

20. If you had to change your first name, what would you change it to?

I love the name my parents gave me so I don’t see the need for changing it.

21. When was the last time you lied?

Let’s see…

22. What’s something that amazes you?

Simply God. Especially the way He answers prayers!

23. Would you rather be the first person to explore a planet or be the inventor of a drug that cures a deadly disease?

The inventor for I wouldn’t be able to explore another planet anyway given the firmament God put in place.

24. What is your favorite amateur activity?

Reading and also walking to clear my mind while communicating with God.

25. What was your first thought when you woke up this morning?

Another day? Thank You, God! 💙

26. What is your favorite song (at least for the moment)?

“All I Want” by Michael W. Smith.

27. List someone you know, and describe them in 5 words.

Lee is caring, eager, driven, focus, and learning.

28. You can select one person from history and have them truthfully answer one question. Who would you select and what would the question be?

Oh my! So many people! Here are a few:

Albert Einstein: Why can’t you take the time to fix your hair? And why would a grown man be sticking his tongue out of his mouth?

King Solomon: How did you ever make time to communicate with your 700 wives one on one?

King Louis XIV: You were four-years-old when you ascended the throne and you became the longest reigning monarch in Europe. How did your longevity affect your reign?

Napoleon Bonaparte: Why in the world did you continue to trust Talleyrand even after you found out that he was not trustworthy?

29. Which celebrity or artist do you resemble the most?

It’s been often said that I look like…

Image result for gif drum roll please

…God! I was created in His image after all. I wouldn’t even give my left foot to look like any of these basic celebrities out here.

30. What do you want me to know?

Jesus is coming again. Are you ready?

N’Golo Kanté: unsung hero of the World Cup

The engine of France and a beautiful soul.

The first time I saw N’golo, he was creating havoc in the midfield at Leicester City in 2015. The other time I took notice of him, he was individually greeting the staff of Clairefontaine with a big smile on his face. That was 2016 when he was called up for Les Bleus. Over time, I’ve come to realize that he is extremely polite, quiet, humble and he smiles a lot. He’s probably one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. This, I can guarantee. He lives a simple life and doesn’t have a drop of arrogance. The man is worth millions and he still drives to work with a second-hand Mini Cooper.

Image result for gif n'golo kante france

During France’s amazing run in the 2018 World Cup, many were in awe of Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba, and Kylian Mbappé and rightly so, but one man was not getting the credit he deserved – well, 3 inclusive of Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud, but this is not about them – and that is N’Golo Kanté. At only 5’6″ he is the anchor of the French midfield and made Pogba look good. He covers a lot of ground and he reads the game brilliantly.

Kanté did not have the best match in the World Cup final and had to be subbed off in the second half. Afterward, we learned that he played with a stomach bug.

France v Croatia - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Final

Coach Didier Deschamps summed up our shy midfielder best:

“N’Golo is a real ray of sunshine, a true joy. When he came off, I asked him if he was OK. His quiet reply was: ‘No, no, do not worry – I am fine, coach.’ Everybody loves N’Golo – he is a little phenomenon.”

Kante (left) shakes hands with a member of plane staff as fellow France midfielder Corentin Tolisso (right) watches on

And his teammates simply love him! His French mates sung his heroics after they won the World Cup. Here’s how it went down:

🎶N’Golo Kanté. Phalalalala
Il est petit
Il est gentil
Il a stoppé Leo Messi
Mais on sait tous
C’est un tricheur
N’golo Kante

“He is short, he is nice, he stopped Leo Messi, but we all know he’s a cheater (at cards).” Haha! Right, as if he’ll ever cheat at cards! But the chant was not meant to be taken seriously and Kanté was almost embarrassed by the praises his teammates showered upon him. He was like, “No, we stopped him (Messi) together!” 😃They even changed the lyrics to welcome him to the Champs-Élysées.

During World Cup celebrations on the pitch with the trophy, Kanté was so shy to ask for the trophy himself so he can pose for a photo in the heavy pouring rain with it, that Steven Nzonzi had to take the trophy after Florian Thauvin posed with it and hand it to Kanté. This epic photo is the result:

Image result for N'Golo Kanté with world cup trophy

This man works hard and shuns the nightlife. In 3 years, he has won 2 EPL titles (with Leicester and Chelsea), an FA Cup (with Chelsea) and a World Cup (with France). He was also the EPL Player of the Year in 2017. A humble, polite, and hard worker who is not interested in selling his image and flaunting his wealth? Many other footballers need to get on his level. I hope I won’t have to take my words back in the future! 😉

MERCI KANTÉ AND NEVER STOP SMILING. 😄😄

Mbappé and Cavani stand out on the world stage!

Day 16 of the world’s most beautiful game: France sends Argentina packing and Cavani made Portugal pack their bags to join them.

I did not get to watch any of the matches because it was the Sabbath and I attended church. But the sun has set now and I looked at the highlights and was satisfied with what I saw. I hope to catch the MOTD in a few hours.

France v Argentina 4-3

I said that I’ll be satisfied with whichever team won and I am happy with France’s progression. Griezmann gave Les Bleus an early lead through a penalty in the 13′ which was canceled out by  Angel Di Maria’s stunning goal in the 41′. Mercado put Argentina ahead in the 48′ coming from a Messi assist, but France was not about to let Argentina have all the fun and struck back through Benjamin Pavard in the 57′ to level things up.

Mbappé decided to join the party and scored in the 64′ causing Argentina to panic. Olivier Giroud’s scrumptious pass found the young man again 4 minutes later and Mbappé tucked it away to pile on the pressure on the Argentines who responded through Sergio Aguero in the 90′ from a Messi assist but it was already too late.

Shucks! I didn’t plan this commentary!

Uruguay v Portugal 2-1

CAVANI! BAE! Cavani came into this tournament to prove that he was good enough to represent his country and he certainly made his point today after scoring two beautiful goals which dumped Portugal out of the WC. He was emotional after both goals, but after limping off with an injury, he was inconsolable when the final whistle blew. I hope the injury is nothing serious because I want to see him feature in the game against the French on Friday.

World Cup Thriller starring Argentina!

It was delirium in St. Petersburg when Lionel Messi put Argentina ahead in the 14th minute!

Nigeria Vs. Argentina: Group D - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

This was the same Leo who looked emotionally and physically drained during the first two group games. This was the same Leo who reportedly locked himself away after missing that penalty against Iceland shouldering the blame for the draw and then the heavy 3-0 defeat against the Croatians.

But Leo knows that this might just be the last time to represent and bring home the ultimate prize for his country and when he took to the field in this must-win match against Nigeria, he brought his A game.

Nigeria Vs. Argentina: Group D - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

Nigeria leveled in the 51st minute when Mascherano gave away a penalty and Victor Moses stepped up and tucked it away. But it was Argentina who’ll have the last say when Marcos Rojo scored their vital goal in the 90th minute.

Nigeria Vs. Argentina: Group D - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

Overall, it was a great match and if this Argentina shows up on Saturday against France, well, I wouldn’t complain as they’re both teams I love and support. I’ve been stressing about France’s room for improvement and if they want to continue, then Argentina should be a real test for them.

Nigeria Vs. Argentina: Group D - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

Congrats Argentina. You live again for another day.

Football ⚽

Why I like Lionel Messi.

He does his talking on the pitch and off it, he is quiet. He doesn’t want to live like a superstar instead, preferring privacy.

Lionel Messi easily became one of my favorite footballers when I first saw him play. However, off the pitch, he’s the least interesting man in the world. Where many footballers like to be seen and heard, Leo actually shies away from such things preferring the comfort and privacy of his home. And speaking of home, it’s actually quite easy to walk up to his home for he lives on a regular street instead of on a private road/area with security flanking his property. He lives in an old home in the town of Castelldefels which has a view of the Catalan mountains.

His neighbors say he’s like a ghost, though, for he doesn’t mix and mingle in sheer abandon.

Interviews and photo shoots are not a total nightmare for him, but if he could skip them all, he definitely would. He never considers himself to be the best player, but I agree with his best friend, Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero:

Image result for gif kunessi

He’s very passionate in representing Argentina on the international stage despite the country not being fully behind him at times for they’re itching for another Maradona:

Image result for gif messi argentina

He gives back via The Lionel Messi Foundation which helps children around the world suffering from health ailments. Last year, the foundation partnered with UNICEF and helped build 20 classrooms in Syria.

Leo is famous, yes, but he doesn’t play it up to his advantage, thus preferring to live like a recluse away from prying eyes. He speaks little preferring to do his talking on the pitch. He seeks simplicity not wanting the attention to be on him 24/7. Whether or not, Leo wins the World Cup with Argentina, he’ll always be legendary and the greatest player of this generation the beautiful game has ever seen.

All the best, Argentina.

Bible Activity/Discussion

Are we truly humble?

HUMILITY: freedom from pride or arrogance

“Lionel Messi is the humblest person I know,”

Yes. Yes, he just might be especially when compared to this:

Image result for gif do you know who i am

Or this…

Image result for gif do you know who i am

And I do admire Messi’s humble trait, but he is not the humblest person I know.

When Jesus Christ was here on earth dwelling among mere mortals they failed to realize who He was because pride was in the way and Christ did not take out a billboard in every city to advertise that He was the Son of God. When He was scorned and rejected, He could’ve easily revealed His divine glory and show those people who He truly was, but He chose to remain humble in every matter and verbal assault.

Being God, Jesus HUMBLED Himself to become Man.

Christ lowered Himself when He died for us on the cross without even insisting on His rights. Had He insisted, “Do you know who I Am?” I guess many people would’ve been astonished to see that He really was the true “King of Kings and Lord of Lords” (Revelation 19:16), the “Prince of Peace” and “mighty God” (Isaiah 9:6) among other wonderful titles!

So can we be as humble as Christ? According to Philippians 2:5, we can by having the same mindset as Him. We can start by confessing our sins regularly, not worrying about status, always thanking God, and putting others before ourselves.

Image result for gif sit down be humble

Remember, not all angels were as humble as our Lord, who is gentle and humble in heart (Mattew 11:29). Jesus modeled humility and there isn’t another fine example that can match up to His humbleness. Check pride at the door and be a humble warrior!

ACTIVITY: Your activity is to sit down and reflect on humbleness. Share in the comment section below what humble truly means to you or your favorite Biblical verse on being humble.

“Above All” is a wonderful tribute to our humble Savior. It perfectly describes His humble nature. 💙 Happy Sabbath, all!

Crucified
Laid behind the stone
You lived to die
Rejected and alone

Like a rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall
And thought of me
Above all

All the Right Moves: a touchdown for the realism!

Tom Cruise movie #6

Actual Story: A high school football player desperate for a scholarship and his headstrong coach clash in a dying Pennsylvania steel town.

So in 1983, we saw Tom Cruise as a gang member who ran off to Mexico and turned his parents home into a brothel (That’s actually my last 3 movie reviews in a summary!). And now, we get to see him as a high school football player! I love the poster because it actually tells a story. The steel town in the back of the football player looks like it’s dying and it’ll be doomed for young people who want to actually pursue a career; they’ll have to get out. And in the front of the doomed dying town, there’s hope in the form of a high school football player who’s willing to make all the right moves so he can get out of town and move on to bigger and brighter things.

And that’s this movie in a nutshell.

Image result for All the Right Moves gif

First thing’s first: Tom Cruise plays Stefan Djordjevic, a Serbian-American who is the star player of his high school football team, but I guess he left the accent back in Serbia! Stefan doesn’t want to end up like the men in his family – grandfather, dad & brother – working at the steel mill. He actually has a bright future map out for himself: he wants to get out of town and do engineering. This was also the story of Shah Rukh Khan’s life in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. 😂

Anyway, while watching this film, the Stefan character reminded me so much of Lionel Messi. I was not watching TC; I was watching an actual soccer player full of passion willing to play for Ampipe Bulldogs.

This film was TC’s first dramatic lead and I thought he did a fantastic job. This is not another typical high school movie. It touches on issues such as education, poverty, and economic status. Stefan is constantly fighting the idea of working in the mill for the rest of his life if he doesn’t make the right choice and leave the town. In the end, Stefan gets a full college scholarship. The realism in this movie was well done.

Image result for All the Right Moves

I thought TC and the girl was cute together, but sue me, I didn’t get her name for I didn’t watch the movie for her. They should’ve gotten married, have kids, and call it a day.

Image result for All the Right Moves

And here’s a nice fun fact: TC was athletic during high school in which saw him participate in sports such as wrestling, soccer, and football. He was injured during a wrestling match and had to miss some time which led him to try out for drama class and the rest, as they say, is history.

Image result for tom cruise high school

TRIVIA

^ The director wanted Lea Thompson (oh, that’s her name!) and Tom Cruise to go undercover to remember what high school was like. They went to separate schools, and while Cruise was spotted after just one day because someone recognized him from Taps (1981), Thompson went four days, was asked out by many guys and got caught smoking.

^ The uniforms and team colors used in the film were from Ferndale Area High School, a small high school in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where the film was made.

^ Tom Cruise’s character has been said to be inspired by real-life Pennsylvania coach Donald A. Yannessa, as well as two members of his team.

^ The movie was shot on location during the WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League) American football season.

^ The film’s title “All the Right Moves” is a double entendre referring to both human decision making and match play.

Day 23: Post five pictures of celebrities you find attractive

Haha! Right. I’ll do that… with footballers!

Olivier Giroud – Tall, handsome, stylish & French? What’s not to like? Also, bearded. He made me appreciate beards. 😄 I liked Giroud since his early days in France before he won an award for his good looks, so I am delighted with how far he got in his career.

Image result for olivier giroud young

Lionel Messi – The Tom Cruise of football! No, seriously, I remember a debate a few years ago in which fans argued about Leo and TC looking alike. I didn’t see it and maybe I needed to squint…

Image result for Messi Cruise

…but I always thought Leo was cute and today no one argues with that. It’s too bad people have to see beauty in others in order to appreciate them and that’s everything wrong with the world today.

Image result for messi young Image result for lionel messi beard

*shrugging* Same old Leo!

Edinson Cavani – his hair is the dream stuff of commercials! Many people think he’s unattractive because of his face, but I think the opposite.

Image result for edinson cavani smile

André Gomes – This boy should be on the catwalk instead of on the pitch because he’s got the looks! Not to discredit him as a footballer, I enjoyed watching Gomes grow into confidence this season.

Image result for andre gomes

Yoann Gourcuff – The first time I saw Yoann Gourcuff he was wearing the colors of the French national team and the first thing that came to mind was, “World’s prettiest footballer!” And then, “Why isn’t he on a catwalk?” But I appreciate Gourcuff as a footballer although, since his broken ankle, he’s not as good as he once was.

Image result for yoann gourcuff my heart beats football

Although I had to choose five people, I happen to think that everyone is attractive in their own way. I look at people and go, “God certainly did a fantastic job with the human race.” 💙
