꧁ TBR Book Tag ꧂

Madame Writer always discovers the best book tags around and although I’m not as invested in books as I used to be, I couldn’t let the TBR Book Tag pass me by! Let’s do… wait, let me grab a coffee first… okay, let’s do this!

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

I actually don’t. I used to keep a notebook, now, I read whenever the impulse to do so kicks in and when I do, I choose a book at random.

Is your TBR mostly print or ebook?

The printed format suits me better as I’ll devour it faster than an E-book!

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

Refer to Q. 1.

A book that’s been on your TBR list the longest

This book:

And this one:

There are others that have been in my TBR even longer, but every time I look at the bookshelf, I keep wondering why I haven’t read those books as yet. The first one was a gift; the second one I bought when I was going through my lawyer phase.

Hopefully, I’ll get to them sooner rather than later.

A book recently added to your TBR

Alex is some kind of wonderful, intelligent mathematical sciencey genius who makes cooking look easy. I used to watch his YouTube channel (Alex French Guy Cooking), so when I saw his book, I had to get it.

I love how he experiments with food and cooking methods. I love it when he goes in-depth into a technique as he demystifies (or complicate) cooking. He made me appreciate food chemistry. The best part of his cooking journey? He was self-taught. 😄

A book in your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover

Beautiful? What even is that?

Okay, you caught me. I bought like 4 books because of their pretty shiny covers, but to keep them strictly in my TBR? A no-no. I already read them and passed them on to new owners.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading

I’ve gotten rid of a lot of books I don’t ever plan on reading recently, so I guess it’s safe to say that I plan to read what’s left of my TBR.

An Unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for

I am not excited about books anymore for they end up being disappointments as authors are forgetting how to author and expectations end up shattering like a favorite tea or coffee cup.

However, I’ll like to get my hands on a copy of Antoine Griezmann’s freshly printed manga Goal

A book on your TBR that basically everyone’s read but you

A few years ago, I got this really awesome book “The Greater Journey: Americans In Paris” on sale at my favorite bookstore. One year later after the purchase, it starts trending everywhere even on Twitter! And I was like, “I’ve got that book and I’ll read it soon!” It still sits on my bookshelf to this day sadly wasting away.

A book on your TBR everyone recommends to you

I don’t recommend books anymore – unless it’s the Bible – so I don’t take recommendations from anyone for every time someone recommends a book to me, I end up disliking it greatly… I don’t know why. However, there is one book that people kept recommending to me because I used to read voraciously and that is “Evening Class” by Maeve Binchy. I have no idea what it’s about for I want it to be a surprise read.

How many books are on your Goodreads TBR shelf?

I don’t do Goodreads. I live my TBR life through the bookshelf in my room and I refuse to count how many books left to read – over 300 I guess – but I’ll inform you when I get to 20.

May 14th: The interview

 :

Interview your favorite fictional character.

After much deliberation (Ethan Hunt, Spencer Reid, Alex Cross, Patrick Jane, Superman etc.), I choose Lestat de Lioncourt because I am really feeling him right now. My interview is probably going to suck, but here’s a heads up: Lestat would be replying with some of my favorite quotes from Interview with the Vampire. Let’s see what I can do with this given that I make a lame interviewer and maybe I’ll have Lestat turn the table on me. 😛

“I’ve always been my own teacher. And I must confess I’ve always been my favorite pupil as well.” Lestat

Lestat

Me: (speechless upon first sight on Lestat)
Lestat: (darkly chuckles) I assume I need no introduction.

Me: Lestat, thank you for agreeing to see me at such short notice. How are things lately?
Lestat: I am afraid, madam, my days are sacrosanct.

Me: By the way, I interviewed your so-call half, Louis. He talked at length about you. Listen to this… (Plays the tape recorder)
Lestat: (When he had enough) Oh, Louis, Louis. Still whining, Louis. Have you heard enough? I’ve had to listen to that for centuries!

Me: (Hurriedly takes the tape off) Is it so easy for you to kill (unlike Louis) that you do not have any sort of compassion for the living among you?
Lestat: It’s so easy you almost feel sorry for them. You’ll get used to killing. Just forget about that mortal coil. You’ll become accustomed to it, all too quickly.

Me: And you’ve got a taste for the aristocrats!
Lestat: There’s nothing in the world now that doesn’t hold some sort of… Fascination. (Smiles) What I wouldn’t give for a drop of good old-fashioned Creole blood!

Me: And what about Louis and Claudia?
Lestat: One happy family.

Me: What’s your favorite snack?
Lestat: Evildoers are easier, and they taste better.

Me: (Grimaces) I think I’ll stick with my French cuisine.
Lestat: Come to New Orleans then. The Paris Opera is in town. We can try some French cuisine.

Me: What are your thoughts on hell?
Lestat: I don’t know any hell.
Me: Surely, you must believe there is a hell just as there is a heaven!
Lestat: And what if there is no hell, or they don’t want us there? Ever think of that?
Me: But…
Lestat: (Yells)

Me: Okay, there is no need to be getting the fangs out. Are all vampires the same, in your own opinion?
Lestat: We are predators.

Me: I’m curious. How do you know who to choose to ‘turn’? Is it a random thing?
Lestat: Why should I tell you? It’s in my power.

Me: And what about the dark gift?
Lestat: The dark gift is different for each of us. But one thing is true for us all, we grow stronger as we go along. Just take my word for it.

Me: I could see why Louis couldn’t resist you.
Lestat: No one could resist me, not even you.

Me: Your life is well, very interesting.
Lestat: Do you still want death? Or have you tasted it enough?
Me: Erm, what?!
Lestat: I’ve come to answer your prayers. Life has no meaning anymore, does it? The wine has no taste, food sickens you and there seems no reason for any of it.

Me: When did I say that?
Lestat: Don’t be afraid. I’m going to give you the choice I never had.

review

…REVIEW!

I’ve had my fair share of vampire books over the years and I don’t know what to make of this mess. I think it was a horrible terrible excuse of a book.

I haven’t read vampire material in years, but this book was on sale and I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt because I thought it would’ve been funny. I wish I hadn’t. Someone needs to tell this author to stop churning out Glory St. Clair novels (that is if they’re still being printed). Sometimes authors have to know their limits and pull the plug on a series.

I couldn’t finish this book. I had it when I reached the 6th chapter. I made a few notes:

^ Glory is supposed to be a size 12 vamp, yet she is presented as a stick figure on the cover. Or maybe I don’t know what a size 12 is.

Image result for size 12 woman

^ Glory is two-timing and whiny and I dislike these characters. I wish someone had staked the undead out of her!

^ Everyone in this book is stupid, jealous or horny. Real vamps don’t act like children, plan weddings and sit around crying over foolish things. Real vamps go out there, bare their fangs and suck on some useless human blood. And wait for it… REAL VAMPIRES KNOW WHAT THEY WANT and they don’t take the term ‘on again off again’ in a relationship to another level.

Vampires just aren’t my thing anymore (I’ve never seen Twilight and I don’t intend to), but Lestat de Lioncourt is still the best vampire I’ve had the pleasure of fiction meeting.

Oh, did I mention that real vampires are French? 😛
