Day 2: A song you like with a number in the title

Who remembers ‘Mambo No. 5’? That song used to be my jam until I started paying attention to the lyrics. Yes, that’s right; I scrutinize everything. I also loved ‘Seven Nation Army’ by The White Stripes, ‘Two Steps Behind’ by Def Leppard and ‘One Thing’ by Finger Eleven.

However, I’ll have to go with the identical duo known as The Proclaimers ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’. I loved the song on first listen and as it grew on me, I realized that it’s about being devoted to a woman and wanting to spend the rest of their earthly life with her. I thought it was cute back then. I’ve never seen the video until now, though, and there are clips from some Johnny Depp movie I’ve never seen in my life so it ruined the image of the song for me. 😆 But it’s all okay, for I don’t care for music as before.

When I come home (when I come home) well I know I’m gonna be
I’m gonna be the man who comes back home to you
And if I grow old (when I grow old) well I know I’m gonna be
I’m gonna be the man who’s growing old with you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles
To fall down at your door

Okay, so I am down for a good old whodunit mystery. Growing up, I used to love these stories. Today, I took a look at the first trailer for Murder on the Orient Express. This movie is based on the bestselling novel by Agatha Christie. The first person I thought of while watching this trailer was my girl Maggie of Dreaming of Guatemala. I read an awesome book review of hers earlier today of another Christie’s novel and she adores Johnny Depp. So, Mags, if you read this, let us know what you make of the trailer. 🙂

Right. So the trailer is well done and it gives no real hint of what has happened and is Johnny Depp always on a train? The trailer is narrated by Hercule Poirot (I’ll choose him over Sherlock Holmes any day!) and he isn’t revealed until the very end. Poirot is played by Kenneth Branagh.

I think it’s the best trailer that I’ve seen in a while, but oh goodness! I am fed up of that Imagine Dragons’ song! It makes my ears bleed every time I hear it. We get it. They like pain. They had to submit to painful tortures before becoming a ‘believer’.

Murder on the Orient Express is scheduled to be released on November 10, 2017. You can have a look at the first trailer below:

A favorite fantasy movie

WARNING: GIF overdose.

I liked a few fantasy movies back when I was an indulgent moviegoer.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

I literally KILLED this movie when it came out! Elijah Wood was all the rage as Frodo Baggins. He played the hobbit role to a perfect T. I also liked Liv Tyler as Arwen (to think they wanted to originally cast Uma Thurman!), I thought Orlando Bloom as Legolas was cute (Bloom is just cute in general & it didn’t help that he was a skilled archer. I admire archers!) and I LOVED Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen). To think that Nicolas Cage was considered for the role of Aragorn!  Vin Diesel is a huge fan of the book and he had also auditioned for the role. I’m just glad it went to Viggo all thanks to his persuasive son.

Avatar (2009)

*sighs* Another film I liked. Zoe Saldana was wickedly brilliant as Neytiri. I liked the fact that the Na’vi race was blue given that it’s my favorite color, but I don’t think I can watch this movie presently.

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

The story of an uncommonly gentleman, this romantic dark fantasy film put Johnny Depp on the map as an eccentric actor. Depp freakishly killed this Edward role. I watched it multiple times before calling ‘meh’ on it.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

I literally OVERDOSED on Captain Jack Sparrow! This movie brought Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom together and it was a wonderful swashbuckling fantasy.

“This is the day that you will always remember as the day that you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow.”

Captain Jack Sparrow is a lying, cheating, filthy, drunk swaying flamboyant pirate and at the time of the film’s release, I thought this movie was utmost perfection simply because of Johnny Depp. The kohl-wearing witty Jack Sparrow was quite attractive to look at.

The second factor? Orlando Bloom as pretty boy Will Turner, a blacksmith turned pirate. Boy was a bit dense, but he outsmarted Sparrow in the end.

British actors are not my cup of tea, but Orlando Bloom is one I like. I couldn’t even stand to watch Keira Knightley as Miss Swan. Whenever I see KK, it’s like watching paint dry. Had it not been for Jack & Will!

But sassy Jack will never be topped because…
