The Secretary Bird

secretary bird | Tumblr

Talk about legs! These beauties have legs for months and eyelashes (actually modified feathers) that models would spill tears over, but look pass the exterior beauty, and you’ll discover a killer queen that enjoys stomping venomous snakes to death.

25 Secretary Bird Facts (Sagittarius serpentarius) Africa's Snake Stomper

Image: Legs, legs, legs!

๐Ÿฆ Secretary Birds can be found throughout Africa, except Sierra Leone and Liberia. They’re also called ‘Archers of Snakes’ although their diet also consists of arthropods, rodents, insect pests, and small mammals.ย

๐Ÿฆ For all the snake stomping that they so, Secretary birds are generally silent.ย

This secretary bird is absolutely fabulous!

Image: Models could never!

๐Ÿฆ This bird of prey is said to have gotten its name from its crest of long feathers that look like the quill pens 19th-century office workers used to tuck behind their ears. I can’t see it, though.

๐Ÿฆ They’re not social birds, and they pair for life.

Image: Not a hair feather out of place.

๐Ÿฆ These birds like stamping so much, that they tend to stamp on grass tussocks to scare up small mammals, birds, lizards, and grasshoppers.ย

๐ŸŽถย Could you be… the most beautiful bird in the world…๐ŸŽถ

This bird is more than a secretary. They should’ve been called Executive Assistant birds. They’re like eagles on a crane’s body. Via Israel Wildlife Channel, watch secretary birds walk about in their natural habitat while a sweet-sounding Rosy-Patched Bush-Shrike provide the background music. Ain’t nature something!

The Ribbon-tailed Astrapia

This cool bird was supposed to be included in last week’s quirky tails, but for some reason, I couldn’t make room for it – only so MANY birds to choose from! – so today, this handsome chap gets its own post.

Behind the lens! ๐Ÿ“ธ, What's Up Wednesday? ๐ŸŽˆ

Guess the color!

Hi guys, welcome back to Behind the Lens. For the last two Wednesdays, I’ve posted photos of my new photo subject: dragonflies. They’re beautiful creatures crafted by D’ Master Architect. Today, I’ll be merging Behind the Lens with What’s Up Wednesdays.

What we’re going to do today is play a guessing game. I’ll supply a photo in relation to BTL and you’ll have to guess what the actual colors of the creature are. Ready?

Here’s the photo:

These creatures are beautiful and BIG on colors! This one actually has two colors.

Can you guess what those two colors are?

The untouched photo will be revealed in all its glory next week God’s willing, but in the meantime, I look forward to your guesses below. ๐Ÿ˜„

The Peacocks and Pheasants

Peacock GIF (With images) | Animals beautiful, Beautiful birds, Birds

I love peacocks! I mean, who doesn’t? Although it’s hardly seen, a peacock in flight is STUNNING! Have you ever seen one in flight? As for pheasants, they’re on some real judgmental stuff. What do I mean? Stick around and find out.ย

๐Ÿฆย Peacocks and pheasants belong to the Phasianidae family, which also includes partridges, grouse, and turkeys. The peacock mainly makes their home in India and Sri Lanka, while pheasants can be found in Asia, Australia, Europe, Hawaii, New Zealand, and North America.

๐Ÿฆย The peacock is also known as the Indian Peafowl or the Bird with One Hundred Eyes and is the national bird of India.ย

๐Ÿฆ Both peacock and pheasant prefer the same food when it comes to eating so no complaining for them at the buffet table! However, there is one food that peacocks eat that pheasant wouldn’t think twice about and that’s the juvenile cobra.

๐Ÿฆ Male peacocks are celebrated for their beauty and male pheasants are known for their eye-catching appearance. You know what’s ironic? The fact that both male peacock and pheasant are brighter and more beautiful than the female, but they have to try their hardest best to win the dull-looking girl with their courtship display. Hmmm… I guess they would’ve been too full of themselves if it was the other way around! ๐Ÿ˜„

๐Ÿฆ Peacocks tend to avoid human-populated areas; they prefer the forests whereas pheasants tend to inhabit meadows, fields, and farmlands. The average lifespan for a peacock is 25 years, whereas pheasants can live up to 18 years.

Peacocks are enchantingly beautiful, and they’re a royal sight to behold. Their beauty is a reminder of God’s gorgeous and amazing creation while their regal appearance is a reminder that God has crowned us with glory and honor.

The White or Albino Peacock is pure and when its feathers are open and spread, it reminds me of a wedding dress somewhat and that Christ is coming for His bride soon. Via KRIBST, here’s a video of a princely white peacock showcasing God’s majestic aesthetic. It makes a commanding sound before putting on a feathertacular show to entertain the ever curious humans. Thank God for this gorgeous animal!

Owls. They’re adorable, precious, and my favorite of the bird species after Kiskadees. I also love the birds that I’ll be featuring for the letter ‘P’. ๐Ÿ’™ Owls tend to get a bad rep for the so-call symbolism they represent in our culture, but they’re so much more than that.
