Journal entry #8: new year, new hair

02nd January 2018

I’ve been wanting to cut my hair for the past few years now and I made the decision to finally do it. I’ve never been to a hairdresser prior to getting my hair cut, so the experience was delightful! The hairdresser was patient and walked me through some styles on how to cut my hair if I was feeling daring, although she kept asking if I was sure I wanted to hack my hair off. When she realized that I was serious, she got down to the business of cutting my hair to suit my face.

I love my long curly hair, but short hair feels fabulous!

And I just want to touch it all the time although I’m already used to the length.

What a way to kick off 2018! I am very pleased with my haircut and I look forward to styling it accordingly.

Playing catch up!

Haha! That’s me trying to play catch up!

But it’s not working out too well.

Despite being back and announcing my big plans for 2018, I have so much to do that I don’t think I’ll be able to catch up with every blog that I follow at the moment. I caught up with a few, but I have to leave again. I hope to be back in the swing of things before the week is out even though I’ve scheduled some posts. Take care and God bless.

Journal entry #7: 2017… MERCI BEAUCOUP!

31st December 2017

We’ve come to the end of a tremendous year and I thank God for bringing me through it.

While 2017 had its ups and downs, I chose to focus on the positive. I picked back up a few skills I had neglected (except art), started studying a new language, read multiple genres in books, and met my new best friend Margaret from The Word.

One of my favorite highlights of the year was celebrating my birthday in the company of friends. ❤

Another delightful highlight was Tammy joining this warm and welcoming blogging community. ❤

Personal wise, there were some issues I had to deal with, but God saw me through all of them every time. I have those days where I struggle, but His Word is my strength and I can always depend on it.

Thank you, God, for 2017! It’s been a blessing and I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for me.

I just realize that according to how fast you say the word ‘hiatus’ it sounds like ‘hi haters’. Anyways, it’s time for me to announce a short hiatus.

I’ll be spending some time away from social media for the rest of the week and that means blogging too. I’ve scheduled some posts given that I was looking forward to this time away from the blog. I have material to write, books to read, sleep to catch up on, family to spend time with, a pet to spoil, but most of all, time with God.

I hope you have a wonderful and blessed week and I’ll be back sometime in January 2018 be it God’s willing to catch up with your blogs. Take care and stay safe.

Reading some blogs and leaving some likes

Image result for gif blogging life

Good morning, everyone! Well, it was morning when I started composing this, but looking at the time on the PC, I see that we’re easing into the afternoon. We just have like four more minutes and bam! Afternoon.

Anyways, I just wanted to leave this here: I am a little slow in replying to comments, following, and reading blogs because I’ve been trying to complete the challenge that I’ve set for myself for this year’s NaNo: 50,000 words by November 28th. Well, it is the 28th and I don’t have 50,000 words as yet, for I’ve taken a small writing break over the weekend to focus on other things. I might have to wait until the 29th to pass 50,000. 😛

I have 11,000 words more to reach my goal, but I’ll see how that goes. I think I have two posts scheduled for this evening, but I am not sure. Anyway, I hope you’re having a wonderful Tuesday! I hope to get back into the swing of blogging things around here soon, but in the meantime, I am reading some blogs and leaving some likes.

Journal entry #6: Happy 01st spiritual birthday to me!

29th October 2017

This is the day that I answered the call to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior… exactly one year ago.

As a little girl, I attended church with my mother, and I’ll sit down and pay attention to the pastor. I thought that having God in my life was a win-win situation, but growing up, I slowly, but surely drifted away (by neglecting His Word and not attending church). School got in the way and then work (I believe that school and work is a form of imprisonment!). Eventually, I put Him on the back burner in favor of trying to make it on my own. No, I did not attend parties for where there is a crowd, I don’t hang, but I was interested in the entertainment industry as I wrote songs and scripts.

I would still pray and thank God for waking me to see another day, for the meal He provided and for the roof over my head, but it was not the same as having an intimate relationship with Him. Last year, I sat down and prayed about it and I was pointed to church, an important part of my new spiritual life that I knew I was missing, but somehow ignored. After attending a few months of church, my spirit was renewed and I started to draw/feel closer to Him.

There was only one more step left for me to do: baptize. The decision was not mine to be made, but His, and at the time He made known that it was time for me to go into the water, I was excited and nervous. Excited because I was finally putting my life in His hands; nervous because I dislike venturing out at sea although I love the sea! 🙂

Being baptized and accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior was singlehandedly the most incredible experience of my life. I wished I had accepted His salvation sooner, but those trials and tribulations made me who I am today. I am still a newborn babe, but I strive every day to live as He wants me to and to do His will and not mine.

Nourishing my spiritual life

Attending church is not going to get us into the Kingdom of Heaven. We have to do more.

“How can I hear God’s voice?”

In this technology age, maintaining a spiritual life can be hard, but it can be accomplished once you have the right mindset. Some people wrongly think that attending church on the weekend – whether it’s Saturday or Sunday school – is all that they need to live a full spiritual life, but they’re wrong. We have to do much more.

I’ve been examining my spiritual life lately and I see some areas that need nourishment.

Praying throughout the day

I am calm whenever I talk to Him. I feel at ease whenever I pray and it helps me stay connected to Him. I used to pray when I wake up on mornings and when I go to sleep at night, but now, I pray throughout the day. Even if I’m working and I feel the need to pray, I stop whatever I’m doing and I pray.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-17: Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing.

Sitting quietly in a room

I like sitting alone in a quiet room and reflecting. I also meditate and think of all the things that I am grateful for even if it was a bad day. I also use this quiet time to pray for everyone. It is in this stillness that I can hear God whisper.

I love the apps that I have on my phone! Every morning, I turn to my Daily Prayer app for the prayer of the day. I have Bible quiz apps, a Bible Study and of course, the Bible. Indulging in these apps have helped me grow spiritually. ❤

Practicing gratitude

When the sun sets on the day, I reflect and thank God for life, for whatever blessings I’ve received during the day. I used to own a gratitude journal, but I have misplaced it. I might have to get another one.

Reading material online

When I get to my work desk – after saying a little prayer of thanks and listening to Michael W. Smith on repeat for almost an hour right before I open for business – I log into WordPress and seek spiritual refreshments from blogs such as soulfood101blog aka The Word, The Way OnlineA Sinner’s DiaryBeholding Him MinistriesInside Cup and Be Blesstified. These blogs play an important role in shaping my daily spiritual life. Keep up His wonderful work, guys! ❤

Matthew 5:6: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Keeping the Sabbath

I have been struggling to keep the Sabbath holy, but I am getting better at it. On the days that I don’t attend church, I study His Word, complete Bible quizzes, and Bible study with my sister/father.

Exodus 20:8 – Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Scripture meditation

This is utmost important for me! The Bible has verses for when I am afraid, when I backslide and when I need comfort. I highlight the verses that speak to me and I meditate on them throughout the day.

What about you? Is your spiritual life fully nourished or are you working on it? Is there anything that you’ll like to add to the list?
