Yes, This Is Our World. 🗺

Unrest in the city

Here, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.

Isaiah 42:18

O nation, it’s time to turn from your wicked ways!

Give ear to what the Word says.

How many more warnings do you need;

Before you take serious heed?

Until the door shuts in your face?

Until you lose the race?

Until your name, He doesn’t know?

Until the Book is close?

By then, it’ll be too late.

And you won’t be able to glance beyond the gate.

The time is NOW! Wake up!

Open your eyes!

To sin, corruption, and lies

Jesus is coming soon.

Today, Port-of-Spain was busy. There were gunshots, protests, fires, and arrests. The police came out to do their best to avoid a full-on riot that could’ve escalated into looting and more. As I write this, my heart clenches. It aches somewhat terribly for the prodigals and the non-believers that God is waiting to return home. This is no time to make friends with the world; this is the time to prepare to meet our Savior.

Time is at hand. And before things get better – our eventual Home with Christ – it’s going to get worse. The question is, are you ready to give up your life for the One that paid it all for us?

Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.

Isaiah 42:20

The Secretary Bird

secretary bird | Tumblr

Talk about legs! These beauties have legs for months and eyelashes (actually modified feathers) that models would spill tears over, but look pass the exterior beauty, and you’ll discover a killer queen that enjoys stomping venomous snakes to death.

25 Secretary Bird Facts (Sagittarius serpentarius) Africa's Snake Stomper

Image: Legs, legs, legs!

🐦 Secretary Birds can be found throughout Africa, except Sierra Leone and Liberia. They’re also called ‘Archers of Snakes’ although their diet also consists of arthropods, rodents, insect pests, and small mammals.

🐦 For all the snake stomping that they so, Secretary birds are generally silent

This secretary bird is absolutely fabulous!

Image: Models could never!

🐦 This bird of prey is said to have gotten its name from its crest of long feathers that look like the quill pens 19th-century office workers used to tuck behind their ears. I can’t see it, though.

🐦 They’re not social birds, and they pair for life.

🐦 These birds like stamping so much, that they tend to stamp on grass tussocks to scare up small mammals, birds, lizards, and grasshoppers.

🎶 Could you be… the most beautiful bird in the world…🎶

This bird is more than a secretary. They should’ve been called Executive Assistant birds. They’re like eagles on a crane’s body. Via Israel Wildlife Channel, watch secretary birds walk about in their natural habitat while a sweet-sounding Rosy-Patched Bush-Shrike provide the background music. Ain’t nature something!

The Ribbon-tailed Astrapia

This cool bird was supposed to be included in last week’s quirky tails, but for some reason, I couldn’t make room for it – only so MANY birds to choose from! – so today, this handsome chap gets its own post.

Ribbon-tailed Birds of Paradise | Lost in Birding: BOP Bonanza...(Papua New Guinea): July/Aug 2010

Image: Get a load of that tail!

🐦 The male Ribbon-tailed Astrapia has the longest tail feathers in relation to body size of any bird, over three times the length of its body.

🐦 The Ribbon-tailed Astrapia belongs to the bird-of-paradise species. Astrapia comes from Greek for flashing or lightning.

🐦 Due to habitat loss and being hunted for its plumes, the bird is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

🐦 Females do not have the long white tail.

Behind the lens! 📸, What's Up Wednesday? 🎈

Guess the color! (Reveal!)

Salut, and welcome back to the fusion of What’s Up Weds and Behind the Lens. Last week, I challenged you to guess the color of a handsome creature that I filtered. Firstly, I want to thank those who participated. It was really fun reading your answers, and most of you came close with one color.

Here is the untouched photo revealed in all its glory:

Blue and black are the colors of this beauty of God. I love how the blue weaves into the black for this beautiful combination. When it curiously landed in the backyard, I quickly dashed inside to get the phone to capture it before it flew off. I was quite surprised and happy to get a really nice close-up.

Once again, thank you for playing along. Blessed Wednesday to all!

Books & Reviews 📚

Reading Daphne du Maurier books for the first time

Reading is kind of slow lately… but I’m glad I’m reading no matter how slow!

Daphne du Maurier (1907-1989) was an English author and playwright. She was known for her moody, so-call romantic, and supernatural plots. Her books are said to be as timeless as Michael Jackson’s music, so here I am.

Daphne du Maurier - The British Library

However, English literature is not exactly right up my alley, so I randomly chose 5 of this author’s books and tried not to read the synopsis or reviews. Had I known what I was getting into!

Book #168: My Cousin Rachel

My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier

I actually got to the end of this book, so yay! It was the first book I read from Du Maurier, but I was left wondering if she wrote a lot of stupid characters. Philip Ashley is probably the stupidest character I’ve ever met. He’s rich, spoiled, obsessive, and has no common sense… then the boring book ends. It just ends! But let’s play a game:

Me: Philip Ashley is so stupid.

Audience: How stupid is Philip Ashley?

Ashley is so stupid that when he discovers Rachel wastes money like tomorrow never comes, he actually gives her a great allowance to squander some more. When it gets out of hand, this numb skull gifts her his estate and inheritance. Also, all the clues were given to Stupid Ashley where it concerns the killing of his beloved uncle, but the fool ignored all the signs pertaining to the solving of the mystery. He’s so stupid!

Yugioh Am IRight GIF - Yugioh AmIRight ThumbsUp - Discover & Share ...

Rachel is quite the stupid character, too, and prettily stereotyped and all.

It was a dull classic with a meh predictable mystery for a highly acclaimed novel. I didn’t enjoy the writing style, the pacing is atrocious, the ending was rushed faster than Usain Bolt could claim gold, and I disliked the setting. Not my cup of coffee. Overall, I wasted time reading this book when I could’ve been reading…

Book #169: …Rebecca

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, Sally Beauman - 9781844080380 - Dymocks

Where do I start? I actually dislike books in which the character/s doesn’t have a name… especially the main one. It’s quite annoying. The main character is dull, boring, and stupid just as Philip Ashley. Perhaps, even stupider and more annoying. Ooh, look at me, I have no name, therefore, I am intriguing and mysterious. Wrong, Nameless! You married a man that treats you like a child. What’s so good about that?

As for Maxi, murder is never the answer. No matter how wrong someone did you, you don’t go around killing people. Books like these are so off-putting. Plus, the author thinks it’s okay to describe every single flower/tree that is encountered and that alone can take up to 4 pages.

It was a snooze fest and I couldn’t stay for the end. Nameless had no name, and it’s good that her parents didn’t name her, for they quickly figured out that their baby girl would grow up to have no personality.

After reading this book, I didn’t know how to feel to continue with her work for I disliked everything from the writing to the characters in this one. Tell me, Antoine, how am I supposed to feel?

The Others

Jamaica Inn - Kindle edition by du Maurier, Daphne. Romance Kindle ...Amazon.com: The House on the Strand eBook: du Maurier, Daphne ...Frenchman's Creek by Daphne du Maurier | Little, Brown and Company

Well, I didn’t really get anywhere with the other 3 books to be honest. I couldn’t get pass how horrible Joss Merlyn was in Jamaica Inn. I also couldn’t believe how stupid the protagonist Mary Yellan appeared. She witnessed at first-hand how terrible her uncle Joss is to her aunt Patience (The irony isn’t lost here regarding my patience with this author’s work) and still managed to stay. However, I didn’t stay for another second.

Giving this author a 4th chance, I turned to The House on the Strand, yawned and put it down as it suddenly dawned on me: Life is too short to read boring books.

As for Frenchman’s Creek, I chose it for two things: the beautiful cover and Frenchmen (duh!), but that was before I discovered how actually boring this author’s work was. I didn’t get anywhere with this book, but I put it down for two things: a grown married woman committing adultery with a pirate and the usage of the Lord’s Name in vain was overbearing. I don’t know if every 19th century spoiled aristocrat dreamt of escaping marriage to have affairs with dashing French pirates that read poetry (of course, of course, see how the Frenchman is typically, beautifully, and romantically stereotyped!), but this is not the adventurous trip I signed up for.

Uk solution GIF - Find on GIFER

Overall:

Daphne Du Maurier is not my cup of coffee. Her writing sometimes fell flat and I did not get a sense of that glowing sophistication that’s always associated with her writing. Most, if not all of her work were too wordy and descriptive. And ALL of her characters were stupid. They lacked common sense and book sense; they were all pumped full of nonsense. Du Maurier books are torturing devices and I’m glad this ride is over for I’m…

Biblical Reflection

The true test

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realise that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?”

2 Corinthians 13:5

Here’s the thing: when everything is going good, it’s super easy to follow Jesus. But when the going gets tough, will you stay when all the odds are stacked against you? When friends and family have given up on you, will you continue to stand with and for Jesus? When you’re broken and your life is coming apart by the seams, will you still trust Him? If you are faithful and stand – even if it’s just you by yourself – the crown of life that the Lord Himself prepared for us is waiting for you (Revelation 21:4-5)

THE CROWN OF LIFE .. REVELATION 2: 9-10 .. MP3 - YouTube

We live in a world that can hammer fear into our hearts, thus shaking the foundation on which we stand. In the midst of suffering, pain, testing, sorrows, we ask God “Will You be there?”, but are we listening for His answer? He says “Fear not”. No matter what you’re facing, be it sickness, unemployment, or death knocking on your door, He says not to fear for He has not given us a fearful spirit (2 Timothy 1:7). We are the ones that allow fear to squeeze faith out of our hearts and fear is not of God.

We’ll be a threat to the enemy before we’re attacked. Welcome to the Christian experience for it’s not all about smelling the roses leaving yourself vulnerable allowing the enemy to pounce. We shouldn’t bend to the rhapsody of the world no matter how melodious and harmonious it might sound and look.

Behind the lens! 📸, What's Up Wednesday? 🎈

Guess the color!

Hi guys, welcome back to Behind the Lens. For the last two Wednesdays, I’ve posted photos of my new photo subject: dragonflies. They’re beautiful creatures crafted by D’ Master Architect. Today, I’ll be merging Behind the Lens with What’s Up Wednesdays.

What we’re going to do today is play a guessing game. I’ll supply a photo in relation to BTL and you’ll have to guess what the actual colors of the creature are. Ready?

Here’s the photo:

These creatures are beautiful and BIG on colors! This one actually has two colors.

Can you guess what those two colors are?

The untouched photo will be revealed in all its glory next week God’s willing, but in the meantime, I look forward to your guesses below. 😄

Salut mesdames et messieurs!

Hi Wave GIF - Hi Wave Hello - Discover & Share GIFs | Hello gif ...

I greet you from the comfort of my bed and I trust that all is well. This note is to address the Bible study and perhaps, a few other matters. If you’ve been reading my other blog, I’ve addressed the bout of recent headaches I’ve been experiencing and the severity of it. Sometimes, I’m up to two or three headaches a day, and each one can last up to 3 hours.

Headache stress benedict cumberbatch GIF - Find on GIFER

Most of the time, I pray and sleep through them for I’ve decided to forgo medication as I’ve been over dependent on them in the years gone by. This is the reason why I haven’t been able to comply the study notes for Exodus as my concentration is not strong at the moment. It’s also why I haven’t been reading your blogs and I hope to rectify this soon. The reason why you’re seeing posts on the blog is simple: they were scheduled beforehand, so thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read and leave comments. I’ll get to them in a timing.

Thank you for understanding and I trust that you’re having a great weekend wherever in the world you might be. Include God in your plans and let Him direct you.

As for me, I’m going to get rest and I should be back to business soon for this too, shall pass.
