My first trip to Tobago 🇹🇹

Image result for gif hello friends

I’ve been behind in writing posts, scheduling, and reading blogs lately. I’ve had some posts backed up in drafts for months now that need editing or dumping, so I’ll try to get to that soon.

Anyways, this post is about my trip to Tobago, so allow me to introduce the sister isle.

Mabrika!!

(In the language of one of Tobago’s original Amerindian tribes, welcome)

Tobago is known as the twin island state of Trinidad. Yeah, we (Trinidad) have a twin. But we’re (Trinidad) still the better-looking twin! Okay, that was childish. Tobago is the smaller of the twin-island state and was once home to an Amerindian community before Christopher Columbus’s claims about “discovering” the island. I am certain that the Caribs did not report it missing!

Daniel Defoe was inspired to write “Robinson Crusoe” after reading a sales pamphlet on Tobago and to this day, the island is known as Crusoe’s Isle.

The island is home to 123 varieties of butterflies and 200 species of birds. It has one of the most beautiful drives with some of the beach vantage points in the world. If you’re into marine activities, Tobago encourages you to indulge in diving, glass-bottom boat tours, snorkeling, wind-surfing, and even kite-boarding.

Behind every landmark is rich in history, but if I start talking about the Dutch, the British, the Courlanders/Kerlanders (modern-day Latvia) and of course, the French, we’ll be here all day, so if you’re looking for a scenic adventure, visit Tobago today.

I’ll try to be short. I’ll also try to post a lot of photos!

On the morning of departure (May 31st, 2018), I was up early for I was excited. However, what was supposed to be a midday departure by boat turned into after 1 PM. We were greeted by boring Elvis Presley music and after everyone was on board and the safety announcement was made, Mission: Impossible III came on and as Ethan Matthew Hunt graced the screen with his presence, I was like, “How did they know I was boarding the boat today?!”😁I did not watch the movie, though. I was more focused on the sights before me and silently communicating with God.

When the boat docked in the port of Scarborough, I just wanted to sleep as it was nearing evening. However, when I got to Sandy Point Beach Club, I didn’t bother to settle in right away. I went for a walk with my sister, took a photo of the remnant of the sunset…

…and then relaxed in the pool. It’s a pity I can’t swim! 😔The next day, we went driving around for a little bit…

…and squeezed in a visit to Fort Milford:

And later that day, we visited Pigeon Point:

That night, we wanted to go out for ice cream and what do you know! At the very end of the street which we stayed on was a homemade ice cream shop and the lady made some of the best ice-cream I’ve ever tasted especially the rice flavor! I could still taste the ice cream. Yum! So we made a mini nightly ritual of going for the tasty treat.

On our last day, we explored the countryside. We couldn’t do Nylon Pool, but there’s always next time. But I was excited about Parlatuvier Bay for I’ve always wanted to see it up close in person and I was not disappointed at all.

Tobago is panoramic, scenic, and colorful. The locals are helpful and welcoming. You can walk the streets any hour of the night and no one would bat an eye. Tobago embraces you and gets you to live in the moment. She gives you peace of mind.

As I end here, I am already packing for the next trip (in my mind). I hope to explore Tobago next time with my bestie for I missed having her with me. Everywhere I went, I thought of her and I know she would’ve appreciated the beautiful scenery!

CRFT snippet #3: Money don’t matter tonight

The following is unedited and all grammatical errors are mine:

Rue St. Honoré. A street lined with opulent fashion boutiques that one may be forgiven if they thought they were at a fashion show. People who couldn’t afford to purchase ridiculously overpriced brands such as Hermès, Dior, Gucci, or Chloé, still stopped and stared in awe at the untouchable items showcased behind glinting glasses. Some were trying to get a glance at the da Díxon twins; they previously ducked into one of the stores and the public was trying to figure out which one. Ever since the twins were featured on the cover of Vogue Paris the French couldn’t get enough.

“This… is very expensive,” Benny Lafayette was afraid to venture further into the store. He was overwhelmed by the pristine clothes, shiny shoes, and flashy accessories. “Why couldn’t we go somewhere else… less expensive?”

Marcus rolls his eyes. “This is my favorite store!” He was clutching a thick book on snakes in his right hand as he circled a few mannequins sporting leather clothing, impressed. “And I want you to enjoy it with me. I haven’t forgotten that I have money. Ne pars pas les mains vides.”

“We could’ve gone to Bottega Veneta,” Ray said behind him.

“As if I’ll ever wear something that isn’t French! It’s the reason why I chose not to walk the Paco Rabanne show with you this weekend.”

“You’re ridiculous!”

“You’re not patriotic enough!”

Benny sighs. “Remind me again, which one of you is older?”

“Remind me, again, why you’re not shopping?” Marcus retorts at his best friend. He gained the attention of two salesmen and starts pointing. “I want every leather jacket on these mannequins, those folded shirts, these coats here, clear everything on this aisle, the jacket with the tribal embroidery, these polo shirts except the striped ones for they belong in a bonfire, all of those black jeans and the pair of black boots in the glass display.”

Benny’s mouth would’ve hit the floor if Ray didn’t nudge him in the side with an elbow. “Relax, he goes shopping once a year and he tends to buy everything.”

“Easy for you to say, Ray. Why aren’t you buying anything?”

Grand-père made me come with Marc although I don’t need anything.” He tilts his head discreetly at a dinner jacket he saw Benny eyeing earlier, as Marcus allowed something else to sway his attention. “You, on the other hand, should get something otherwise Marc would be insulted.”

French terms used:

*Ne pars pas les mains vides – don’t go empty-handed

* grand-père – grandfather

In my feelings

Different… styles?

Despite looking the same and dressing alike sometimes, some identical twins do have particular styles when it comes to fashion sense. Ray’s style is more sophisticated while his brother is a sucker for leather and black when he’s not in the school’s uniform. I would’ve liked to post the entire chapter, but then it wouldn’t be a snippet. I wanted to do something different with this shopping chapter hence the overboard shopping. 😁

On another note, NaNo would be over in 4 days and this is probably the last snippet I’ll be sharing… for now. At the beginning of the month, I discussed why I won’t be participating in NaNo, but I had an idea of what I wanted to write (CRFT) and I promised to share a few raw unedited snippets. This was completed. However, I do plan to share more snippets (I promised to share a snippet and my thoughts on ESP for a reader so there’s that), just not now. I’ve put this under the YA genre rather than Contemporary. I’m also extremely happy that people enjoyed reading about rich twins that have morals.

Thank you for reading, leaving your comments, and even suggestions for the story. I appreciate it a lot… so do the twins. 😉

Bible Activity/Discussion

I never intended to do Bible studies… blogging-wise.

Image result for gif hello august

Today, I want to talk about how I came into sharing the Word of God here.

We come to the Bible knowing there is a God. A Creator. It tells and shows us that God exists. It records His excellent intelligence! The universe showcases His marvelous glory!

Image result for Psalm 19:1-4

I enjoy devoting time to studying God’s Word. It shows us how we should conduct ourselves and instruct us in the way to go. It helps us understand God better in order to draw closer to Him. It is our history. And given that He is our Creator, ONLY God can explain why He created us.

I do love reading and studying His Word, but when God came to me about starting Bible studies on this blog, I did a Jonah and tried to run away. This was around 2016. I was perplexed and I had a bag of excuses to choose from, the main one being that I was inexperienced and I didn’t know how to put studies together. Another one was that many Christian bloggers were already sharing His Word.

But God had other plans for me. He reminded me that this blog belongs to Him now, and this was something that He wanted me to do. Eventually, I prayed about it and asked for guidance on how to go about His Work.

The Bible is accurate and truthful. It says what it is. It is God inspired and reliable. Genesis is the most important book of the Bible for without it, there wouldn’t be the Bible. Teachings and doctrines have their foundation rooted in Genesis including the character of God, sin, the fall, redemption, the return of the Messiah, and more.

I normally schedule the posts so I won’t have to log in on the Sabbath to do so although there are times when I have to log in to edit/write a post.

In closing, I want to thank you for the support and encouragement. I’ll be continuing to do God’s will as long as He gives me breath.

Bible’s Most Asked Questions #4: Was Jesus born on December 25?

There’s a light that shines on every flower
And it shines every minute, every hour
And always guides me on my way
This light was born on Christmas Day
His name is Jesus.

Laughing Children by Lennox Grey

This used to be my favorite season song when I was really young. I grew up believing that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was born on December 25th when scriptures plainly do not state so. This question tends to pop up around this time a lot, but it’s hardly addressed in full for many are afraid of upsetting Christians. Today, we’re going there.

Image result for gif history

It was the 3rd century, people started to speculate about the birth of Jesus when Hyppolytus (ca.170-236) claimed that Jesus was born on December 25. Much later on, Cyril of Jerusalem (348-286) said that Jesus was born on December 25th because of the original Roman birth census which he had access to said so. But did the Bible say so? And yes, I know the Bible does not have to record every event, but this was the birth of the Savior. This was the birth of the Man Who’ll eventually die for our sins. Wouldn’t the Bible have dedicated at least a portion in His honor telling us the exact date of His birth? Wouldn’t the disciples have celebrated His birthday? So if December 25th was not the birth of our Savior, what is the significance of the day? Let’s dig in deeper.

The significance of December 25

Image result for gif history

At the time of Christ, the Romans celebrated a holiday in December known as Saturnalia that honored the god Saturn from December 17-24. Later, the Romans began celebrating Sol Invictus/”Unconquered Sun” (sun worship) on December 25. This was associated with the winter solstice. In the 4th century, Rome instituted Christianity thus converting Saturnalia and Sol Invictus to a Christian holiday. This provided a spiritual alternative to the pagan celebration and it was called the Feast of Nativity.

But did Jesus asked for a commemorative birthday which had its origins steeped in paganism? A few gods are celebrated on or associated with December 25th including Apollo, Attis, Tammuz, Helios, and of course, Nimrod (the Christmas tree can be traced back to him). Some of these so-call gods were born to “virgins” including Ra.

In Luke 2:7-8, we see the shepherds in the field watching over their flocks at the time of Jesus’s birth. Scholars and historians agree that this couldn’t be December for Judea were cold and rainy around this time and it’s most likely that the shepherds would’ve sought shelter for their flocks. In Luke 2:1-4, Jesus’s parents came to Bethlehem to register in a Roman census and such were not taken in the winter. Luke 1:24-36 tells us that Elizabeth, John’s mother was in her 6th month of pregnancy when Jesus was conceived. Zacharias, John’s father, was a priest serving in the Jerusalem temple during the course of Abijah (Luke 1:5) and according to historical calculations, this service took place on June 13-19 in that year.

If John was conceived at the end of June, and you add 9 months, that’ll bring us to March when John was most likely born. John and Jesus have a 6-month age difference between them, so if we were to add 6 months after John’s birth, Jesus would’ve been born in the month-end of September. But it’s all assumption, for He could’ve been born in October as well.

In conclusion

The early Christian church did not celebrate the birth of Jesus. We do not know the exact date on which He was born and if God wanted us to know, He would’ve told us in His Word. And if December 25th was really the birth of our Savior, why is it people do the most unholy things on this day such as being gluttonous, debauchery, selfishness, etc?

To put, this is a tradition of man. Rome did not celebrate Christmas until 300 years after the death of Christ.

Book #142: Who Moved My Cheese?

Well, this feels awkward given that I haven’t talked about books in a long time, but it also feels right, for I enjoy talking about books… even when I’m bashing ’em. However, I haven’t been reading much lately, for my interest in books are shifting. Too much garbage out here lately. I haven’t purchased any new books in months so my current TBR (after weeding) would take me into 2019 God’s willing. Anyways, enough chit-chat. Let’s talk about the book I just literally finished reading.

I dislike motivational books and I’ve been avoiding this one for years. However, recently, I was cleaning out the empty back office of the library, and this book ended up in a stack of books intended to be shelved. My friend saw it, borrowed it, read it in one day, talked wonderfully about it and suggest that I read it, too. I hesitated. I kept insisting that I wouldn’t like the book for it’s not my cup of coffee, but I decided to stop “judging” and see for myself.

And I honestly don’t know what to make of this book because it assaulted my intelligence! 😔

Okay, let me start off by listing the few things I sort of liked about this book:

* Haw’s so-call inspiring cheesy notes for his best friend, Hem who didn’t like change. Life moves on and so should we. Embrace change. Learn to adapt. I can contradict this also by saying that life can sometimes be complicated to be resolved by embracing change and adapting for it’s a process for some.

* Page 70: He pulled off his shoes, tied the laces together, and hung them around his neck in case he needed them again. We shouldn’t get too comfortable. Be always ready to move if necessary.

* And of course, the various cheeses mentioned! There could never be enough cheese! Oddly enough, I am not eating any cheese while writing this. I should rectify this. *Heads for the fridge in search of cheese* Okay, we’re out of cheese. Who ate my cheese?!

‘Cheese’ is whatever you desire. It’s a metaphor for what you desire to have in life be it a relationship, recognition, a mansion, etc. ‘The Maze’ represents where you spend time looking for what you want. There are 4 main characters: two mice (Sniff & Scurry) and two little people (Hem and Haw). They spend their time scurrying around the maze when the cheese from their comfort zone is gone.

Yep! Hardworking employees are reduced to lab rats in this book!

Then for the remainder of the book (which I didn’t finish), we get to listen to a group of friends discuss how the awesome philosophy behind the missing cheese relate to their boring lives. Talk about a marketing ploy to encourage managers to buy this oversimplified rubbish! I rather listen to Seto Kaiba talk about duel disks! Now, there’s a CEO who’ll call this book for what it is! 😉

I don’t like the book. I also don’t like that the author comes off as a bragging pompous bore: “This book has helped lives and marriages and even saved careers.” Maybe it did, but so what? There’s no need to act as if this is the only self-help book on planet earth. If your friend gives you this to read, dump him/her. If your boss gifts this to you, hand in your two-weeks notice.

I wish I could un-read this book. If I need self-help, I can always count on the Holy Bible. And I just realized that the question ‘who moved my cheese?’ was never answered. Hmm… maybe it was The Man testing the system after all. Whether we like it or not, we’re slaves to the system and when things get taken away from us, we all react differently to change.

At least there’ll always be cheese! 😋

COVER

For a book that talked about the world of cheeses, there was a lack of cheese on the cover. Although I understand that the cover has to sync with the genre, I found the cover boring. 1/3

Every November 21st is World Hello Day! It was created to promote peace throughout the world through communication.

This global event was first celebrated in 1973 as a response to the Yom Kippur War.

How to Celebrate?

Participants must greet at least 10 people. They can be family, friends, colleagues, or even the stranger you walk by every day. Well, with the way things are going in this world today, one should be careful in approaching strangers.

Did You Know…

CRFT snippet #2: Sonnets

Thanks to Kage of RLyis for this lovely cover

The following is unedited and all grammatical errors are mine:

Ray needed to be in two places at the same time: his swim meet and Romance Lit Club. It was his first swim meet so he chose to go there asking his twin to stand in for him at RLC. Although Marcus knew what he was in for, he obliged for he couldn’t say no to his twin, plus, there was bribery cake in it.

The club had a total of thirty members and they met in the music room on Wednesday evenings. Today, twenty-three showed up to read their favorite sonnet. Marcus was aghast. There was no way he was going to pull this off now. He hated sonnets!

A tall lanky guy stands and addresses Marcus, “Ray, if you don’t mind…”

Where Ray was charming, Marcus was the total opposite, but he forced a smile – when all he wanted to do was coldly glare – and said, “By all means, be my guest, Papin.” He listened half-heartedly as Papin gushed over a sonnet by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and tuned him out as he gazed out the window thinking about the batch of cupcakes Ray was going to especially bake just for him.

“I shall but love thee better after death.”

“Ugh!” Marcus moaned in despair when some of the girls clap wildly. “Please, stop the train I want to get off.” By the time the fourth reader dramatically read her sonnet, Marcus wanted to hurt something. “I rather watch water boil!” he let out a breath and chanted internally, Think about the cupcakes. Oui, the cupcakes!

They were black coffee vanilla cupcakes that left a somewhat bittersweet coffee aftertaste in the mouth. Ray was skilled at creating bizarre foods that ended up being masterpieces.

The cupcakes.

And they were all his after sitting in on this stupid romance club for one hour and a half. The cupcake dream soon disappear when Jarvis Facinelli said, “This sonnet is perhaps the most popular to date! It’s Sonnet 18 by Shakespeare who I consider the greatest romance writer of all time.”

Trying hard not to laugh, Marcus bit the inside of his left cheek and insolently rolls his eyes, “Right, and Shah Rukh is the best actor in the world.”

Jarvis frowns. “Ray, I know you have your opinions…”

“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?” Marcus cuts off the escalating rant. “Thou art more lovely and more temperate.” He mocks. “As if he was comparing his love to the weather! It’s emotionless and dispassionate and it’s like talking to a dead fish.”

“Oh, yeah,” Jarvis challengingly folds his arms. “then what’s your killer passionate opening? Something from a dead French fanatic, perhaps?” he sneers.

“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine,” Marcus smirks as the class was thrown into an uproar. A few of the girls sigh dreamily. Papin was frantically trying to rack his mind for the sonnet number and Jarvis was still staring at him with contempt.

“Who wrote that sonnet?” Papin finally asked.

“Ever heard of the Holy Bible?” Marcus looks on as everyone nods. “Good. That’s Song of Solomon. Read chapter one for the next class and we’ll discuss the greatest piece of romance ever told. As for me,” he picks up his backpack. “I’ll be devouring some of the finest cupcakes soon. Au revoir!”

Have you ever seen the devil face to face?

The Old Switcheroo!

Well, I know that you’re familiar with this one! 😄You might have also seen movies with twins switching lives or a class for a day or maybe even two. Some results were hilarious, or successful, while some were plain disastrous; but twins enjoy sharing the pranks they’ve pulled on their classmates, friends, and even relatives. One of my favorite accounts involved identical twin teachers pulling off the big switcheroo, but some students noted the difference in handwriting and the class went nuts. Luckily, the teacher was just standing in for his identical twin for one day… or was he?

However, it is also important to note that although identical in appearance, twins do have different personalities and habits. They might look the same, but they are not always the same except in a few rare cases.
