What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas. 😉
Last evening, TC dominated the Paramount Presentation with tales from his upcoming film Mission: Impossible – Fallout at CinemaCon and he was honored at the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation’s 2018 Pioneer of the Year dinner. He is the second actor to receive such award. I know they said he’s the first, but I think Bob Hope received the award back in 1980. Cruise spent time on the red carpet mixing and mingling with every reporter. No reporter was left unturned!
Some lowdowns from the event:
^ TC looked great in the best color ever to exist in the face of the galaxy:
^ Paramount Pictures confirmed the pre-production sequence of Top Gun and the recordings can start in July given that the movie will be opening on July 12, 2019. Eh, I’ll pass on this.
^ TC and McQuarrie showed raw footage of Cruise doing some stunts. TC did 106 jumps (from a plane) to get three usable takes that will be cut together to make a single three-minute action sequence in the film.
^ It took a year and building the largest wind tunnel in the world to prepare so we can see TC skydive out of a C-17.
^ Those lucky bastards get to see a 10-minute sequence set on the streets of only the most romantic city in the world and a new trailer!
^ Here’s a spoiler: Hunt saves August Walker (Henry Cavill) while they’re in the air.
^ Cruise had to chase a stuntman falling at 200 mph in the air, re-attach an oxygen hose, and deploy his parachute — and his own — in time to not plummet to the ground. How is he still alive?
^ Cavill said he felt as if he was in “Top Gun”.
^ I am convinced that Tom Cruise is going to die doing a stunt for an action film. Pegg feels the same way, stating, “It is a daily stress going to work with him because you don’t know if you’re going to see him tomorrow.”
^ TC talks about more MIs for he’s not ready to give them up yet. Dude, no! No one wants to see Ethan Hunt in a wheelchair!
^ TC’s MI 6 co-stars were there to also recognized four decades of Hollywood success.
^ And Angela Bassett was in her glee. Like, who spiked her drink?:
^ Other actors present at CinemaCon who? TC OWNED CinemaCon!
^ The honorary dinner was hosted by James Corden, they showed a reel of TC’s brilliant career and he received a standing ovation.
^ An event record $1.5 million was earned on the name of honoree Cruise.
^ The Pioneer of the Year Award is given to a respected member of the motion picture community whose professional leadership, service, and commitment to philanthropy is exemplary.
^ Paramount needs Tom Cruise. They know this for he has brought in the majority of their earnings and they’re depending on MI6 to bring their studio back to its former glory.
^ While listening to his speech, I concur that TC has a beautiful voice. It’s so soothing that I can listen to him drone about nothing all day and still pay attention. He should consider doing audio novels. Anyways, congrats man! 👏
