Blogger’s problem 101: like for the sake of liking

Are you one of those bloggers who like for the sake of liking without actually reading the post because you know if you like the post it’s going to be bait for the blogger to visit your blog and ACTUALLY read your post?

If you’re one of those, then it’s unfair for the blogger who actually read your posts and leave comments while you just visit their blog and press the like button without reading. There are no rules stating that you have to actually like someone’s post. None whatsoever! So if you don’t like reading other bloggers’ posts, don’t visit their blogs, don’t press like for the sake of liking and don’t follow their blog. Stop giving them false hopes that you’re actually reading their blog when in fact you’re not.

  2. I would be afraid if I liked something without reading it, that it would be something totally against my beliefs in God. Does that make sense. I’ll explain. 1.) it’s telling a lie and 2.) what if they are saying something totally against God, Jesus, or His word, or is for harm, hate, or just something that I would never be for? Now don’t get me wrong, I read lots of blogs that aren’t about God. I love poems, and lots of poems might be dark but I still enjoy them because of the beauty in the words. BUT I read them FIRST lol.

    1. I usually like a post, then read it, then comment, haha! Although sometimes, I’ll go and “like” different posts under tags for people to find my blog, but I only “like” the posts that I approve of and agree with. I’ve never gone around and spam-liked! And I always try to give back to the people who comment on my blog because I appreciate that they take the time to comment and not just like 🙂 I don’t usually keep following the people who only click “like” on my posts!

      6. I always make sure I don’t like posts like that haha! I can’t believe some of the stuff people write about on here. I was scarred for life after looking at the ‘truth’ tag once.

  3. Hahaha I like this post, and I wonder how many people will not like it just because they feel guilty because they’ve done this before. I’m not guilty of what you’re writing about, but I do hit the like button a lot to show support of a blogger, and not always the quality of that particular post. If someone posts several times a day, I might not have time to read all of them, so I try to hit the ones that sound interesting to me. Often times, I’ll leave a comment too, to engage in the conversation and offer additional support to the writer. Sometimes if I’m really short on time I won’t comment, but at least I took the time to read it.
    You make a good point though, if a person isn’t actually reading the post, the “like” is creating a false sense that the person has engaged in the post, and it’s not really benefiting anyone. I like to think that if I put in the effort to support other writers that they’ll support me in return. After all, my blog posts are meant to help other writers or to share my work. And at the end of the day, if I’m not getting support in return, at least I know I put positivity out into the world. And how can I feel bad about that?

    1. You’re always engaging, Mandie and this is something that I admire about you. I absolutely agree with what you said in the last paragraph. Also, some bloggers might feel bad given that they see the same bloggers reading/liking/commenting on their posts on a daily/weekly basis so they visit the blog and like the content without reading. There is no need to do this.

  4. Seriously! It makes me upset that so many of my followers click “like” on most, if not all, of my posts, but have only commented once. How can they never want to comment? I comment on theirs! It’s quite annoying…

    1. I am guilty of not commenting on everything I like 😦 I am a little more shy about typing something. I don’t know why. Plus sometimes when I comment my comment is long and I don’t know if people appreciate that lol

      1. Well I know I appreciate long comments! I like having conversations with other bloggers 🙂 I like most of the posts that show up in my Reader because I support those bloggers, even when I don’t have something to say. So it’s alright to like without commenting 🙂 it just shows that you enjoyed a post.

      4. I don’t comment on everything I like either and I don’t see anything wrong with this. The most important thing is the fact that we read the content before liking. And Margaret, you can leave comments as long as a winding road and I won’t mind at all. 🙂

    2. I agree, Maggie. However, I don’t mind followers not leaving comments once they’re reading the content before they hit the ‘like’ button. Sometimes I don’t know what to comment after reading so hitting ‘like’ seems fair.

      1. That’s true. But it does make me sad when someone who used to comment stops completely. I have to remind myself that people are allowed to comment on whichever blogs they so desire, lol 🙂

  5. I usually end up opening posts they sound interesting and actually enjoy reading them, but then end up spending so much time wondering whether I should comment about my thoughts down or not. Lately I’ve been trying to communicate more though and it’s going pretty well because everybody is so friendly!

    1. Yes, this is an engaging community and everyone here is really nice. I don’t think I haven’t met someone who wasn’t. You don’t have to comment all the time once you’re reading the content before pressing ‘like’. Sometimes when I read a post, comments may fail me and pressing ‘like’ suffices.

      1. I agree. But I also think it is a little pointless to bait one of these people too. Usually you can tell when someone does this. Another one that bugs me is when someone will constantly update or “bump” their post throughout the day.

  7. I agree! Sometimes I make a post and get a like within 30 seconds… I’m like no way that actually read that. It’s usually confirmed when I don’t see a comment. Because I know sometimes people like a post quick if it’s a blog they really like they know they’ll like the post or the first line caught them etc..
    I like to read, comment, then like. Sometimes I don’t comment if it’s just a short post or poem but I always read it.

  9. Ha ha.. I do that. I do have my own set of blogs which I read and comment. I also have blogs where I browse through reader, look at titles, see images and like them. I might not actually read. I don’t like those which I find political or offensive. 🙂

    I feel every writer has their own perspectives and way of putting thoughts. I might not read, But I still don’t mind to leave a like for the sake of appreciation. That’s just how I feel and I totally agree to your thoughts here too.. 🙂
