May Book Prompts

Challenge: The Winter of Our Discontent

This book was John Steinbeck’s last novel. It was written in 1961. The only work I’ve read from this author was the novella,Β The Pearl. I still own and love that book!

Annalise stood dumbfounded in the cozy, but cold barn slightly shivering. Her midnight black stallion snorted and trotted over to the semi-frozen bundle on the floor and nudged it. It didn’t seem to move and she briefly panicked about a dead body in her barn. Hands shaking, she slowly and carefully walked over to the collapsed bundle on the floor of her barn. It was a man. A white man in his late twenties. She felt for a pulse and received a faint response. His eyes slowly opened at the warm contact on his cold skin and when she gazed into the spellbinding blue eyes, she just knew she was going to do the forbidden thing by spending the harsh winter nursing him back to health.
