#MayBookPrompts Challenge: Day 5

May Book Prompts

Challenge: Something Wicked This Way Comes

This book is a 1962 dark fantasy by Ray Bradbury. I have not read this one either given that it is not my cup of tea. I came up with two shorts for this prompt. I don’t think I am writing as well as I should be for this challenge given that I am constantly tired lately, but I want to complete it and the most important thing is that I am writing.

The first one was inspired by Om Shanti Om. I was watching  this film when the thought for this prompt hit me: love is not always kind. It can be cruel and wicked.

He clutched his heart as she walks by with a walk he can only describe as a deadly swagger. His heart has never felt so restricted before. Many have warned him not to cast his eyes upon her, but it was already too late for something wicked this way comes.

Mr. Dark is a featured character in the novel. I thought it’d be awesome to use him as a source of inspiration for this one:

MR. DARK

It’s not a walk in the park,

But he lives in the dark

And he always hits his mark.

He calls the darkness home,

because the light, being so innocent & pure, is no good.

He is hell bent on evil

As he lures unsuspecting victims to his hideaway

Stealing their last breath as he snuff out their life

For the very last time.

I took inspiration from a vampire 😛

#MayBookPrompts Challenge: Day 4

Challenge: The Fault in Our Stars

Another book I did not read (and have no intention of reading), another film I did not watch (and have no intention of watching). John Green is not an author I’m gaga about.

I drew inspiration for the following piece from Kal Ho Naa Ho (one of the greatest tearjerkers of all time) in which Aman (Shah Rukh Khan) didn’t tell Naina (Preity Zinta) and Rohit (Saif Ali Khan) that he was actually dying from cancer.

ALL OF ME

He was dying. The bastard was dying, and he didn’t have the gall to tell her of his serious diagnosis. Sandra wept alone in her car, the big white hospital building in front of her a blurry mess. Tyson never told her that he was in the last stage of cancer, that he had actually come back home to make peace with his loved ones and to die free of burdens. It was unfair. She had given him all of her and never once did he had the audacity to give her a piece of his dying heart.

Challenge: Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is one of the most boring books I’ve ever had the displeasure of attempting to read. I’ve never finished the book on two attempts and decided not to bother. It’s supposed to be a novel on manners (according to many), but who better than the French to teach us about etiquette eh?

King Louis XIV knew that everything France did was looked upon by her rivals and allies alike with envy. When he implemented etiquette rules, dictating how one should eat or sit whilst the King is in their presence, other countries followed suit. He was the master of etiquette and took pleasure in making sure Versailles stuck to the rules. The Sun King was perhaps, the most influential Monarch who ever lived.

Challenge: Desperation

I think Desperation was written by Stephen King. I am not a fan of King, but I liked Misery only because it featured a writer.

I actually wrote this one before the first-day prompt and it started with a Grim Reaper wallpaper on my sister’s phone.

His bony  fingers enclose around my neck,

Squeezing,

Digging,

Strangling.

I screamed,

I kicked,

I fought,

Maybe it was determination

Or desperation,

But I wasn’t about to let the Grim Reaper pick me as yet.

#MayBookPrompts Challenge: Day 1

May Book Prompts

I’ve started the #MayBookPrompts challenge. It’s off to a slow start, but I am getting around to completing them. I must admit that I haven’t read most (or all for that matter) of the provided book titles, so I had to look them up. This challenge brings back delightful writing memories when I used to jot down notes, short stories, song lyrics, and poetry based on my favorite book/movie titles. I look forward to completing it. For the next few posts, I’m going to post the first 5-6 days.

Here we go…

Challenge: Ink Heart

I’ve never read the book or seen the film, but I looked it up and Inkheart was written by Cornelia Funke. I even read that the character Mo was inspired by Brendan Fraser. I think it was pretty cool, but I don’t think I can ever read this book. I couldn’t think of anything so I came up with just this:

If you can see inside, I’ll like you to see my Inkheart which spurts nothing but creative blood, 24/7.
